Kathy Ireland Young Attitudes Garden Girl Milk Chocolate Rug

Super soft and even more adorable, the Kathy Ireland Young Attitudes Garden Girl Milk Chocolate Rug ($109-229) is the perfect solution for a mom who isn’t looking for a pastel pink or lavender-themed girl’s room.

With a gorgeous chocolate brown base covered in a modern interpretation of colorful spring blooms in shades of crimson, sage, butter, black and aqua, it’s girly without being frilly. The nylon weave is plush and cozy, yet durable enough to take the inevitable damage caused by years of tea parties, board games and sleepovers.

Plus, while most of your nursery décor and furniture changes as your girl grows, this rug will always work.

Keeley Hawes Says Kids Keep Her Hopeful

Richard Young/Startraks

When asked whether she’s a pessimist or an optimist, actress Kelley Hawes says she definitely falls into the latter category and it’s her three children – Myles, 8 ½, Maggie, 4 and Ralph, 2 – who have her seeing the glass as half-full. “I’m hopeful for them,” she tells Psychologies magazine in its latest issue. “And I’m hopeful for my vegetable patch! When I grew up in central London, we had six pavement slabs for a garden. I’m determined to get something out of the ground to show my kids where carrots come from, other than the supermarket.” The 33-year-old Ashes to Ashes star admits that motherhood caught her off-guard, however.

“The whole experience was shocking for me, physically and mentally. I had a bit of baby blues, which probably didn’t register with anybody, and I wandered around thinking, well, when are they going to come and get him?”

That’s when it hit Keeley that she had a “lifelong houseguest” in Myles! “Once you’ve gone home and everything has died down, suddenly your life has changed,” she notes. “You’re you, but very different. Then of course I had another, and another, so it can’t have been all bad.” As for her decision to tackle motherhood at an early age, Keeley admits there were both pros and cons. It’s “particularly lovely” for grandparents, she notes. “Myles goes to art classes with his grandfather, they go twitching together, they do things that wouldn’t have happened had I been 10 years older…They get so much out of it, more than I can tell you.” On the other hand, Keeley admits ”it can be very difficult financially.” Even though her financial worries are no longer what they once were, she has no plans to get pregnant again.

“I’m not having any more. My husband says, ‘Well, maybe one more.’ I say, ‘Maybe we’ll adopt one more.’”

For now, Keeley says she’s content to focus on her family while she continues to try — usually in vain — to carve out some ’me’ time. In the interview, she says she feels most like herself when she’s taking a bath with the door shut, which she characterizes as “a rare event.”

“The funny thing about children is that, whichever room we’re in, that’s where they’ll be. If I’m in the bath, they’ll want to be in there too, playing with the toothbrush pot or brushing my hair. So I feel most like myself then, when they’re banging on the door shouting, ‘Let us in!’”

Maggie and Ralph are her children with husband and Pride and Prejudice actor Matthew Macfayden; Myles is her son with ex-husband Spencer McCallum.

Alison Sweeney Introduces Megan Hope

Alison Dyer for PEOPLE for use on CBB

Alison Sweeney wasn’t expecting to give birth on Jan. 12. But when she dropped into the hospital for a check-up in full hair and makeup after a long day on the set of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, the host, then 9-months pregnant with a baby girl, recalls, “My doctor was a little concerned and said, ‘I don’t want to leave her in there one more day!’”

After having labor induced, Alison, 31, gave birth to Megan Hope Sanov at 11:48 that same night.

Alison describes her surprise – and her husband Dave Sanov’s mad dash to the delivery room just in time for the birth – in the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

At home in Los Angeles, little Megan already has her dad, a California Highway Patrolman, “wrapped around her little finger,” Alison says. Not to mention her big brother, Benjamin Edward, 4: “He pets her on the head and calls her cutie-pie!”

Megan’s nursery is decked out in pink and brown tones with sage green accents, a feminine chandelier, and traditional Bellini furniture. Tradition, too, dictated Megan’s name: “There have been a lot of quirky, unusual celebrity baby names. But we wanted people to be able to spell it. We wanted it to be more timeless,” Alison explains.

There’s nothing old-fashioned about Alison’s post-baby workout routine, however. The star who, was back on the The Biggest Loser set just eight days after the birth – and returned to her role as Sami Brady on soap opera Days of Our Lives just six days after that – has been turning to her Nintendo Wii for help. Alison is the proud owner of a new fitness program, called EA Active, and has been following its lead to help bust her baby weight.

“When do I have time to go to the gym?,” asks Alison. “It really is like a personal trainer in a box. It’s perfect. I recommend it to all mothers!”

Mother of Two Natasha Richardson Passes Away

Jason Kempin/WireImage

Actress Natasha Richardson — mom to sons Micheál, 13 and Daniel, 12 — passed away last evening in New York City, following a traumatic brain injury suffered Monday during a ski lesson. Motherhood was a top priority for Natasha, who was married to Liam Neeson for 15 years. Scott Ellis, who directed the 45-year-old in January, remembered,

“Some actors when you work with them and they have children, you’re surprised to find out they have children. With Natasha, she was fierce about those kids. Motherhood was really, really important to her.”

Brooke Burke Twitters Sleepy Shaya's Latest Milestones

Flynet

Although he wasn’t walking by his first birthday on March 5th, 12-month-old Shaya Braven Charvet didn’t make his mom wait long! Brooke Burke, 37, twittered the exciting news Monday: “OMG!!! Shaya just took 4 steps!” It was certainly a bright spot in what appears to have been a challenging month thus far for the family of six, which includes Brooke’s fiancé David Charvet and her three older children — Neriah, 9 this month, Sierra Sky, 6 ½ and Heaven Rain, 2.

Lamenting a “tortuous” nighttime routine, Brooke recently took to her Baboosh Baby blog for advice on how to secure some quality sleep for her entire family. “The past four nights have been rough,” she wrote. “I wish I could fast forward to an easier time…Anybody wish that?”

With Neriah and Sierra, Brooke practiced a family bed for five years, but she is “trying to raise Rain and Shaya differently.” To that end, while Rain spent the first six months in her parents’ bed, she was then transitioned successfully to a crib; Shaya’s birth and the family’s move to a new home sparked a regression in Brooke’s youngest daughter, however. Writes Brooke,

“She is in a big girl bed, so every night she makes her way down the hall and crawls into my bed. I have to admit, I love the late night cuddles but I do miss sleeping next to David.”

Click below to read about Brooke’s first attempt at employing “tough love” with Shaya.
