Brooke Burke Blogs About Switching Rain's Preschool

Landov

It seems like just yesterday that Heaven Rain Charvet — the 2-year-old daughter of Brooke Burke and David Charvet — was gearing up to start preschool, and already she’s a well-travelled student! In a recent blog entry, Brooke writes that “although Rain was very happy at her other school” the couple made the decision to enroll her in a new program that offers early Jewish education. Brooke’s older daughters Neriah, 9 and Sierra Sky, 6 ½, both attended a Jewish Early Childhood Center (ECC) “and the program was full of love and valuable lessons,” she writes. “David and I felt that the new place would be a better choice for our family.”

The new school brought with it some big changes for Rain. A longer day — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — meant that naptime would now take place at school, and of course there would be new teachers to meet and new friends to make. Brooke says her youngest daughter made the transition with ease, however, thanks to some thoughtful prep-work by her parents. “Friday I spent the afternoon with Rain at the school for a special event, which helped to familiarize her with the area,” Brooke explains. “I spoke a little with her over the weekend about her going to a new school , and mentioned her teachers’ names several times.”

“We … packed lunch together and chatted about eating with new friends. I think ‘fun talk’ about anything new is super important, and a well prepared child adjusts much easier.”

Neriah adjusted to preschool with ease, while Sierra took a bit more time to warm-up to her new surroundings. Rain, Brooke reveals, “approached the day with enthusiasm!”

“She kissed me goodbye, and I watched my phone for the next two hours thinking she may need me. She didn’t. It was harder for me than her, which I have found to be true in many cases. I picked up a happy Rain, and I was so proud of her and how well adjusted she is.”

Noting that “every child is different,” Brooke admits that she, herself, was “kicked out of many preschools” because she simply “could not adjust.” She goes on to advise readers to “hang in there if you are going through this tough stage, and count your blessing if you are flying through it!”

In addition to the girls, Brooke is mom to 12 ½-month-old Shaya Braven.

Maxine Bahns Introduces Madison Rose

Courtesy Life & Style for use on CBB

As a seasoned athlete who’s competed in several triathlons, including the notoriously grueling Ironman — a race that consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run — actress Maxine Bahns thought giving birth would be a piece of cake. Wrong! Sitting down with Life & Style just nine days after her daughter, Madison Rose, was born on March 8th, the star of The Mentalist recalls being shocked by the intensity of labor. “The contractions were brutal,” she says. “But once the epidural kicked in, I was fine. I don’t know how women do it without one!”

Her hard work was clearly worth it. “I love the name ‘Maddie,’” says Maxine, gushing over her newborn with adventure-racer hubby Patrick Watson, 39. “I just think it’s a cool name. And ‘Rose’ is for Pat’s mom, Rosemary.”

As for which of her parents Maddie resembles most, Maxine sees a nice mix. “I’ve got a Chinese-Brazilian background, and Pat’s Irish,” she says. “Maddie’s got his eyes and skin coloring, and my legs and fingers.”

While being an athlete didn’t help during labor, it is making it easier to get back in shape. Maxine, who first broke out in 1995’s The Brothers McMullen, says she’s already shed 16 of the 28 pounds she gained during pregnancy, and the rest should come off once she starts training for the half-Ironman she plans to compete in this July. “I need to start soon,” she says. “The summer isn’t far off.”

She also looks forward to bringing the baby to the set of her hit CBS show. “I haven’t taken her out that much because she’s so tiny,” Maxine says. “But I want everyone to see her.”

For now, Maxine’s thrilled just to enjoy these precious first days at home with her baby girl. “There’s no sleep,” she explains. “It’s in chunks — two hours here, maybe another hour there — but it’s so worth it. The love you feel is just unbelievable. I’m embracing it. I look at her and I just go, ‘Wow.’”

Kristin Dos Santos Wants Your Input!

Kevin Parry/WireImage

“It’s time, tubers,” declares E! News correspondent Kristin Dos Santos in her latest column. The Watch with Kristin columnist began her maternity leave this past Friday after being told by “my very kind doctor, [that] this baby could come ‘at any time now.’”

Kristin, 34, and her husband João Dos Santos decided against finding out the sex of the baby, so “no joke, we still have not decided on a name for this child” and are asking for all the help that they can get! Kristin would like readers to leave their name suggestions and also join in “a fun little Baby Dos Santos pool … You can play along by guessing my bambino’s birth date and sex,” by clicking here. No matter what day Kristin gives birth, she says “It’s baby time, people! I believe Josh [Holloway]‘s wife is due right around the same day as I am, as is Alyson Hannigan.”

Jennifer Godwin, Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna and Natalie Abrams will fill in for Kristin while she is on maternity leave. This is the first child for Kristin and João, who were married in July 2007.
