Learning Carpets: So Much More Than Your Average Rugs

03/23/2009 at 10:45 AM ET

One of the best things about my new home is the giant kitchen. But I wanted to make it kid friendly to keep my 1-year old twins entertained while I cook and clean up. Pair that with their new love of pushing and playing with cars and I knew the Learning Carpets My Neighborhood Kids Play Rug ($50) would be perfect.

You get a big 3’ x 6’8” rug that’s non-toxic, stain resistant and easy to clean. The soft rug gives them a place to push their cars around as they visit ‘the park’ or the ‘construction site.’ And since the last thing I want is a tiny head crashing onto my rock-hard tile floor, it also provides a little extra protection in case they topple over. Best of all, it keeps my little ones entertained long enough to let me empty the dishwasher.

My daughter, who is now 16, had one of those as a child..and I can tell you one thing, I didn’t pay $50 for it! Not even close!!!! I also have a 3 yr old who would love this rug. It does keep them entertained!!

They sell one just like this at IKEA. It may not be quite as large, but I think it’s only like $20.

My 3-year-old daughter would probably love this! Such a cute idea. Though I may check out the cheaper IKEA one – thanks for the tip, Sally!😉
