Belli Skincare: Eye Brightening Cream
When it comes to beauty products, we women resemble older children: Just like they WANT to believe in Santa (even though they secretly know the truth), we desperately want to believe in all the promises the cosmetic industry makes. Kind of like the promise that lies in the name of this product from the appealing Belli Skincare Motherhood line, skincare that aims at pampering pregnant women and nursing mothers while using ingredients that are considered safe for the baby – Eye Brightening Cream.
It’s a vitamin K-enriched cream, an ingredient that is said to enhance circulation and thereby reduce the appearance of dark circles. Oh, those dark circles! They unite us new mothers like burp stains, the gloomy witnesses of our lonely nights, when we seem to be alone in the world, even if there is a loudly screaming human being right next to us. So if a cream promises that it will “revive” our eyes, “lighten dark circles and minimize fine lines,” we WANT to believe it. Certainly I wanted to, I really did.
I used it and stared into the mirror. “I do look brighter,” I thought, but a voice whispered in the back of my head. So I asked my husband. Of course, no husband who has a functioning brain would answer affirmatively to a woman’s question like “Do my eyes look tired?” So I applied the cream to just one eye and asked him again. He picked the wrong eye as the brighter one.
But I don’t care. First, I wear contacts, and this is one of the very rare creams that don’t irritate my eyes. More importantly, I’m a mother with a two year old and a six-week-old baby. Applying an eye cream after my thirty-second-shower feels like pure luxury, feels like, well, like being a woman and not only a mother. It makes me happy. And happiness is an ingredient that is said to enhance circulation and thereby reduce the appearance of dark circles.
