Tameka 'Tiny' Cottle Opens Up About Losing Her Daughter

Frank Micelotta/AP

Shortly after discovering she was expecting her second child with rapper T.I., former Xscape member Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle was faced with the heartbreaking news that her pregnancy check-up had raised a red flag.

In a new interview with Essence.com, Tiny opens up about her pregnancy struggles, sharing that the sac that held her baby girl “was split in two and they had not combined by the time she had turned 16 weeks old.” With her daughter “positioned in the middle of those two sacs in her own sac,” Tiny was told to prepare for the “possibility that [the baby] could get tied up in her umbilical cord.”

Despite the doctor’s warnings, according to Tiny, the thought of losing the baby never crossed her mind. In fact, says the singer, her doctors informed her that all was well with her baby, as things seemed to be under control. A trip to the specialist the following day however, proved otherwise. “When I went to see the specialist, that’s when they determined there was no heartbeat,” explains Tiny, who delivered her stillborn daughter six months into the pregnancy.

Surrounded by family and friends to avoid her mind from wandering and being “so sad,” both Tiny — who found herself “very upset and depressed for awhile” — and T.I. spent the hours after the birth in the hospital room with their daughter Leyah Amore.

For the devastated mother, the idea of leaving the hospital without her baby girl was understandably hard to swallow. “Here I am in the hospital to have a baby, deliver it, but I’m going to go home with no baby,” says Tiny, who admits she continues to “keep [Leyah's] belongings near me — pictures and roses [from the burial].” While the songstress realizes that her form of grieving may seem “crazy” to others, she “just needed to be with” her baby girl.

“After Leyah was born, I kept her in the room with me the whole day. They placed her in the little basket and we dressed her in an outfit and had a blanket wrapped around her. They came and got her because her body went cold and I wanted her back so they warmed her body again and I kept her. Everybody came to visit her and then me and [T.I.] had our time alone with her.”

Munchkin Changing Pads: Perfect When You’re On The Move

I wouldn’t give up my changing pad for anything. Having one (or more) is a necessary tool when you’re a mom. But that doesn’t mean I’ll refuse any back up. And that’s exactly what the Munchkin Changing Pads ($7) are perfect for. Each box comes with 10 (or 20 for $7.50)  disposable changing pads formulated with Arm & Hammer baking soda to keep things fresh. The 18 x 26.75 inch, leak-proof liners mean you can change baby on your Aunt’s embroidered duvet cover with a little more confidence. They’ll never replace my favorite changing pads, but I’m throwing a few in my diaper bag, stowing some in the car and stashing a few in the stroller… just in case.

The changing pads are available at Target.

Sarah Shahi's Flirty Florals

Denise Truscello/WireImage

Life star Sarah Shahi poses with her fiancé, actor Steve Howey, while attending Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple may be a little more than engaged — we hear they eloped over the weekend in Vegas!

Looking gorgeous in a colorful floral dress, Sarah, 29, is four months along with her first child, due this summer. Her role on Life will be altered to give her a break during the pregnancy, say the show’s writers:

“Episodic television is a grueling schedule and Sarah and Damian [Lewis] were practically in every scene together, and we certainly can’t expect Sarah to work 15-hour days … So we are going to carve Sarah out of the main story a little bit … and just give her some relief as well.”

In addition to Life, Sarah will also be making an appearance on the series finale of The L Word next month. Steve, 31, known for his role on Reba, recently appeared in the movie Bride Wars.

Gretchen Mol's Approach to Motherhood: Roll With the Punches

Fame

While some girls spend their youth dreaming of motherhood, actress Gretchen Mol spent hers terrified of the possibility of pregnancy. “[I would] just weep when the threat of pregnancy came into my life. I’d literally cry. Like, ‘Am I going to throw my life away?’” she admits in the March issue of Cookie.

Fast-forward 10 years and the first-time mom couldn’t be more thrilled with her blossoming family that includes husband, director Kip Williams, and their 17-month-old son Ptolemy John.

After telling her agent she “didn’t want to work in L.A. even if it was the greatest job in the world,” Gretchen — who “didn’t want to compromise” — and her family settled in New York City where she now films her hit show, Life On Mars.

For the 36-year-old, a great acting gig and her two boys waiting for her at home — and extended family in the area — is the perfect set up, allowing Gretchen to spend her favorite time of the day with her son. “I love bedtime. I get such a sense of accomplishment when he rolls over,” she shares.

Diving right in to motherhood, Gretchen has skipped the parenting books and instead tackles each situation one step at a time. “Just going with it is the only thing I know how to do,” says the actress.

While that philosophy seems to be working well for Gretchen, she is the first to admit that there have been a few bumps in the road along the way! “One morning I had to do a live news show and I called Kip to say, ‘Turn the TV on.’ Ptolemy started crying. Of course it freaked him out. He doesn’t watch much TV,” recalls Gretchen who was left thinking, “I am so insensitive.” Despite the hard lessons learned along the way, Gretchen takes it all in stride.

“I’m not someone who reads up on everything and decides this is how we’re going to do things. When he’s having a tantrum, I am not going to look it up in a book and say, ‘Okay, 14 months old? Check.’ I just deal with whatever is thrown at me.”

Keep reading to hear why Gretchen wants in on Katie Holmes’ secrets!
