Kassius is My Little Sci-Fi Sidekick, Says Brian Austin Green

Francis Specker/Landov

Long gone is the lifestyle Brian Austin Green led during his days on the original 90210; For the actor, the late-night parties and the thrill of Hollywood have been replaced with the bedtime stories and trips to the park. As much as his son Kassius Lijah has shaped his father’s priorities, Brian says having a child has equally motivated him to have a successful acting career. “I have a different reason to work now, having a 6-year-old, I’m not in it for the party and excitement,” he says. “It’s a job for me; I want to do the best I can for as long as I can — so I can enjoy life when I’m not working.”

Although Brian’s days are spent on set for his hit show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the 35-year-old shares that Kassius isn’t complaining in the least! Instead, the rambunctious boy is able to investigate the Warner Brothers lot and spend time browsing the “store full of all the WB cartoons and shows and movies.” However, while Kassius may enjoy running through the parks on location, Brian shares that his little sci-fi fan equally enjoys life on the set of his dad’s show. A huge fan of Star Wars – the plot “fits into what he loves” – Kassius’ biggest thrill is exploring the intricate underground maze. “He has fun when we’re in the underground tunnel system; he loves those tunnels, it reminds him of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” explains Brian.

A successful actor and a dedicated dad, Brian says he is simply doing “the best I can,” while he still has the time — and Kassius’ attention!

“He thinks I’m pretty cool. He’ll find out otherwise eventually, but he’s still young enough to think Dad’s cool. He’ll hate me in a couple years. I gotta get it all in while I can.”

Kassius is Brian’s son with actress Vanessa Marcil.

Ellen Barkin Doesn't Regret Taking Time Off for Motherhood

Evan Agostini/Getty

In her twenties she was ”a real explorer” and in her thirties Ellen Barkin shifted the focus to her career; Marriage and children soon followed, however, and in the process “pushed everything else into a corner,” the 54-year-old actress tells the March issue of Psychologies magazine. While Jack Daniel, 19 and Romy Marion, 16, were babies Ellen was essentially a full-time mom. “I’d do one movie a year, tops,” she explains. “I wouldn’t travel, I never had to take them out of school or leave them.”

“That was my life and I have two fabulous children to show for it.”

Still, the extended hiatus from acting did not come without a cost. “Did my work suffer? Of course it did – it always does,” Ellen feels. ”After slowing down for the kids, and bowing out for the marriage, being able to work a lot, on lots of different things is a pleasure and a privilege.”

Now that she’s kicking her career back into high gear Ellen says she won’t overcompensate with the kids, however. “I think my generation is way over-involved as parents,” she says. “We want to invade every corner of our kids’ lives…It’s not fair, it’s not right.” Instead, Ellen says she’s the “most respectful mother you’ll meet.” That means always knocking before entering bedrooms, and that’s not all. ”If I saw a diary open, I wouldn’t even close it -– I’d just walk out of the room,” she adds.

“If they go out, I appreciate a call to know they’re safe, but I don’t ask who they’re going with unless they want to tell me. It’s not my business. We’ve forgotten something important: we don’t own our children.”

Jack and Romy are Ellen’s children with ex-husband Gabriel Byrne.

It's a B.O.Y. for M.I.A.!

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin

It’s a boy for M.I.A.! The “Paper Planes” songstress and fiancé Ben Brewer Bronfman welcomed their first child, a son, on Wednesday, February 11th.

Announcing the birth on her MySpace, M.I.A. shares that although she could have gone out after the Grammys last Sunday, she chose to go home, where her early stage labor began around 2 a.m. Her son was born Wednesday and is “healthy, fine, beautiful and the most amazing thing ever on this planet.” She jokes that she and her baby boy are working on putting 2010 tour dates together, making mix tapes, and “figuring out a way to break out of the hospital.”

M.I.A. says her son — which was a delivery surprise — has already added fuel to her fire as an artist.

“Having a baby is the most creative thing you can do. It makes you re-learn the world through a child’s eyes.”

The singer, 31, announced her pregnancy in October. On Sunday, February 8th, M.I.A. performed at the Grammys — on her due date! Now all eyes will be next Sunday’s Academy Awards to see if she will have bounced back in time to perform “O Saya,” her Oscar-nominated song from Slumdog Millionaire.

Lance Armstrong's Schedule is His Kid's Schedule

Flynet

Before cyclist Lance Armstrong made the decision to return to professional racing, he had to take into account the time spent with his kids Luke, 9 and twins Isabelle and Grace, 7, and how he did not want that sacrificed. To accomplish it, “my schedule this year pretty much revolves around my kids’ schedule,” he explains, but Lance also credits his ex-wife Kristin Richards Armstrong with working with him so he doesn’t miss too much time with his children. “Kristin has been the real hero and very helpful to me and understanding on this comeback,” notes Lance in a new interview.

“It’s not optimal that I fly from here back home for five days before the Tour of California. That’s the schedule Kristin and I have set out and the kids want to see their old man. I will always travel back and forth to have quality time with my kids. That’s what we’ll do this week and so all that will stay the same as it was the first time.”

Each of his kids have been present when Lance has won the Tour de France and he plans to make sure that all of his kids are there for the race this July, including the baby that he and girlfriend Anna Hansen are expecting this June. “He or she will be at the Tour, for sure.”

Keri Russell Wants River to Stay Clear of Acting

Ramey

It seems to be a common trend among actors that they do not want their children following in their footsteps and actress Keri Russell is no different. When asked recently if she wanted 20-month-old son River Russell to enter the entertainment field, Keri quickly replied, “Oh God, I hope not.” She admits that he can “do whatever he wants when he grows up. I obviously have no control over that,” but she hopes he doesn’t follow her into acting for a simple reason.

“It’s a very slippery slope for anyone, but especially for kid actors …  it’s a weird business. People who are great are so great, but so many have a hard, hard time.”

River is Keri’s first child with husband Shane Deary. Keri, 32, lends her voice as the title character in the new animated film Wonder Woman, to be released on video March 3rd.
