Toy Fair 2009: Domo and Friends

Frankly, Domo strikes me as a weird and scary toy to give a child but my 7-year-old nephew and 11-year-old niece assure me he’s very cool. Anya was a little scared of him because of that wide open mouth filled with pointy teeth but I told her that he’s just really hungry and wants to eat spaghetti so now she thinks he’s funny.

An Easter Domo Plush ($8) from JAKKS Pacific will hit stores soon.

Humanity Tees Teach Global Citizenship

I was drawn to these t-shirts from Humanity because they remind me of the watercolors of Ludwig Bemelmans’ Madeline series, and they do have a similar morality. Each of their characters, Henri (the small French car), Sal (the Mexican suitcase), Pinellia (the Chinese plant), Nalo (the recycled African newspaper),  and Kai (the Southern California Surfboard), teaches kids to be global citizens without hammering it in their head – keep the oceans clean, recycle, take care of their bodies, walking instead of driving, and so on.

Toy Fair 2009: Cabbage Patch Kids Fairies

A child of the 80′s, I owned a Cabbage Patch Kid that I treasured. Named Celeste, she had a face only a cabbage (or an 8-year-old) could love and a tattoo on her tush. I think my Aunt Claire had to bribe someone at her local toy store to get dolls for me and my brother.

Man did I love that ugly thing. So it only makes sense that, as a mother of the 00′s,  I would want my daughter to have her own CPK. Since she’s obsessed with princesses and fairies, it’s only appropriate that her first Kid be from the new Cabbage Patch Kids Fairies line from JAKKS Pacific. At $11 each, they are much more affordable plus they’re the perfect size for toddlers to hug. Like all Kids, each comes with her own unique name and birth date.

Julie Bowen Expecting Twin Boys!

For use on CBB

When she announced her pregnancy in early November, Julie Bowen stayed mum on the details, including when the baby would be arriving. CBB can now confirm that she’s due to give birth in April — and it’s twin boys!

The former Boston Legal and Ed actress let the news slip at giggle‘s Pasadena store opening (that’s her with founder Ali Wing at left) on Tuesday evening, and her rep confirms the good news to CBB/PEOPLE.

These will be the second and third children for Julie, 39 and husband Scott Phillips. The twins will join big brother Oliver McLanahan, 22 months.
