Lance Armstrong's Schedule is His Kid's Schedule

Flynet

Before cyclist Lance Armstrong made the decision to return to professional racing, he had to take into account the time spent with his kids Luke, 9 and twins Isabelle and Grace, 7, and how he did not want that sacrificed. To accomplish it, “my schedule this year pretty much revolves around my kids’ schedule,” he explains, but Lance also credits his ex-wife Kristin Richards Armstrong with working with him so he doesn’t miss too much time with his children. “Kristin has been the real hero and very helpful to me and understanding on this comeback,” notes Lance in a new interview.

“It’s not optimal that I fly from here back home for five days before the Tour of California. That’s the schedule Kristin and I have set out and the kids want to see their old man. I will always travel back and forth to have quality time with my kids. That’s what we’ll do this week and so all that will stay the same as it was the first time.”

Each of his kids have been present when Lance has won the Tour de France and he plans to make sure that all of his kids are there for the race this July, including the baby that he and girlfriend Anna Hansen are expecting this June. “He or she will be at the Tour, for sure.”

I think it’s great how he’s acknowledging his ex in this… not that he doesn’t give her credit privately, but I think it’s important that the kids know it by being able to hear their father say it, and also it shows all of us nosy fans that they are both working hard to co-parent together and do what’s best for the kids… makes us better able to enjoy watching him race.

Obviously, I don’t know what happened between his ex-wife and him, but I got the impression that the demise of his marriage had a lot more to do with him than her. However, I agree with Kat, and respect him for all the admiration and credit he is giving Kristin in his comeback. Everytime I’ve read anything about that, he’s saying how much he appreciates her and he wouldn’t be able to do it without her support.
