Despite only coming to life on-screen, Carrie Bradshaw is a leading lady in the evolving world of fashion; For actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who brings the eccentric shopaholic alive, her list of top priorities gives less attention to fashion and places more focus on family. When prompted during her interview for the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar to share her necessities in life, Sarah Jessica was quick to reference her two main men — husband Matthew Broderick and their 6-year-old son James Wilkie – before finally revealing she appreciates supportive underwire! “My son! My husband! Food! Oh, fashion? I don’t know. A good bra?”
While the 43-year-old actress admits she does not possess “the Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion” to the art of fashion – however, she does have her own clothing line, Bitten — Sarah Jessica nonetheless can’t deny her weakness for the power of a strong scent. With a successful fragrance line, Sarah Jessica explains that, for her, a familiar smell often takes her back to a special memory.
“I remember when I came home from the hospital after having my son, I wore a Narciso Rodriguez black coat. Then, I was using this fragrance that I had created. I walk by that coat, and it still smells like that fragrance. It takes you right there.”
Although James shows little interest in watching his mom dress to the nines — “now if I would dress up in Legos, he would be very interested” – a curious child at his best, he couldn’t help but question Sarah Jessica on the appropriate color schemes for a wedding. After learning that his school teacher will soon be married, James approached his mama — who sported a black ensemble on her own special day — to find out if black was back in style! If given a second chance, the actress would happily wear white, she says, adding,
“I’m not kidding. White it up. I’d wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn on the day. James Wilkie’s teacher is getting married, and he said, ‘Do you think she will be wearing black?’ I said, ‘No! I can almost assure you.’ Then he said, ‘Do you still regret it?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I still regret it.’”
