Katie Holmes and Her Copacabana Cutie

Her name is Suri, she’s a celebrity baby … and she loves her dresses just as much as Barry Manilow’s famous Lola!

Down at the Copacabana (beach in Rio de Janeiro, that is) with mom Katie Holmes on Wednesday, the 2 ½-year-old removed her shoes for a walk in the sand. The family is in Brazil while dad Tom Cruise promotes his latest film, Valkyrie.

6184sure and collette- There are pictures of them from a few days ago on Just Jared. I haven’t looked at them myself, but another poster on a Tom-Katie-Suri thread a couple days ago said that some of the pictures include Katie wearing a swimsuit, and there is no sign of pregnancy.

Likewise, there is no bump in this picture. A slightly loose shirt maybe, but not a bump. I do think Katie will get pregnant this year, but give the girl some time! She only just got done with her Broadway play (speaking of which, if she were pregnant enough to be showing, she’d had to have gotten pregnant while the show was still going on, something I don’t think she’d do).

I hate to be a bummer, but Suri NEVER looks like a happy toddler in any photos. Suri is a cutie pie, just a sad and possibly lonely cutie pie.

tam- That’s not true! Back around Thanksgiving, there was a photo of Suri with Tom, and Suri was smiling like crazy (that was from around the same time the pictures of them and the Beckhams were posted). That said, you can’t tell if someone’s lonely just by looking at them. You can look sad and not be lonely, and you can look happy but be lonely. You can also look sad but not actually be sad (just as you can look happy but not be happy).

In this picture picture, however, I think Suri just has what I call the “relaxed mouth” look. That is, the look that people get when they aren’t smiling or frowing or doing anything else with their mouth. Some people have “relaxed mouth” looks that make them look serious or angry (Zahara Jolie-Pitt is another celeb baby who has a a serious-looking “relaxed-mouth” look).

I also don’t think Suri is lonely. Katie spoke a few months ago about taking her to art and music classes. Presumably there were other kids there for her to interact with. Tom and Brooke Shields have also spoken about Suri and Grier having playdates. Just because we don’t see her playing with other children doesn’t mean she never does! There ARE aspects of celeb’s lives that we know virtually nothing about!

Also, would YOU be smiling if you had several strange people sticking cameras in your face all the time? Granted, there ARE celeb kids that almost always smile despite the cameras (Violet Affleck, for example), but we need to keep in mind that most of those kids are kids of less famous celebs, and therefore don’t get followed by nearly as many cameras as the Cruises do.

The paps also seem to keep their distance more with most of those celeb kids. With the Cruises, the Jolie-Pitts, and sometimes Britney’s boys, the paps often seem to get right in their faces (despite, in the Jolie-Pitts’ case, Brad repeatedly asking them to please use long lenses).
