Kevin Costner Preps Cayden for Big Brotherhood

Charles Sykes/AP

As Kevin and Christine Costner look forward to the late February birth of their second son, apparently the same can not be said for their 20-month-old son Cayden Wyatt.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 54-year-old actor reveals that Cayden has been busy “marking his territory” around the couple’s California home. “We tried to kind of prep him,” Kevin explains. “We showed him the bassinet where the baby is going to be, and he started throwing junk in there.”

“All his books, all his balls and his stuff go in [the bassinet]. I guess we’ll have to look deeper psychologically to see what that’s all about.”

Kevin pulls double duty as lead singer for the rock group Kevin Costner and Modern West, and it appears as though the music gene has been passed on to Cayden. “He has a couple of little guitars, and he listens to the band and sits on my knee sometimes when I do rough tracks,” Kevin says. “He likes a good beat.”

In addition to Cayden and baby-on-the-way, Kevin is dad to Annie, 24, Lily, 22, Joe, 20, and Liam, 11  from previous relationships.

That’s so funny. When I was pregnant with my second baby, I started prepping my oldest daughter the minute that pink line showed up on the test. We bought her a baby alive and taught her how to feed the baby, hold the baby, change the diaper, etc. My oldest was 17 months when we found out we were pregnant and 24 months when we had baby girl #2. She did really well too, so I think its smart to start prepping them early.
