India Hicks Feels 'No Shame' For Hiring Nanny

Courtesy Cookie

For Top Design host India Hicks part of living the good life on a small Bahamian island means indulging in a nanny and a housekeeper, and the 41-year-old mom-of-four offers up no apologies! “I have lots of help, and I feel no shame about it,” she explains in the February cover story for Cookie magazine. “My kids come to me first…If that changed, I’d realize something was wrong.” To that end, despite her numerous professional responsibilities, India balances her day “very carefully” so that when she’s with sons Felix Austen, 11 ½, Amory John, 9 ½, Conrad Lorenzo, 5 ½ and daughter Domino Carmen, 13 months, they have “the most loving time.”

Admitting that she “spoil[s] them much more than” she herself was spoiled, India describes her parenting style as “very lenient.” It’s not all fun and games, however. For the last few years, Felix and Amory have attended boarding school in England – leaving India, 41, in tatters. “I miss them unbearably,” she says. “It’s a physical pain…I hop on and off that plane to London like it’s a bus.” The difficult decision was reached because “there’s a point where you outgrow an island education,” she explains. “Especially boys, who need to be socialized and have laboratories, art departments, and playing fields.” Their time spent abroad has made return trips to the island all the more special, says India.

“The time I have with my children when they’re home on holiday is the perfect honeymoon. And the wonderful thing is, I get to have that honeymoon again and again and again.”

Domino is doing her best to break up the boy-centric vibe that prevails in their island home, even with Felix and Amory’s departure. “There’s a lot of testosterone flowing…our whole house is geared to boys, so its’ surprising to see little specks of pink,” she reveals. “David keeps looking at her and saying, ‘What’s that boy doing in a girl’s dress?’”

Each of the children are India’s with longtime partner David Flint Wood.

Elisabeth Röhm Attached to Baby Weight

John Shearer/WireImage

As Elisabeth Röhm excitedly made her way to the Golden Globes after-parties Sunday night, parting ways with her 9-month-old daughter Easton August was bittersweet. Grateful for an evening out on the town with her girlfriends – one of her first such nights since becoming a mom — Elisabeth nonetheless had Easton’s latest and greatest milestone fresh in her mind. “She said goodbye to me for the first time…she kind of put it together that this is ‘Bye Bye,’” the 35-year-old actress tells PEOPLE. “I was like, ‘No, don’t say goodbye! I’m staying!”

From the sound of things, had Easton uttered the words any sooner Elisabeth might have skipped those after-parties, after all! As her experience as a mom has grown, so has her confidence, however.

“I’m kind of in my zone, I think a little bit more peaceful. I’m not that young, kind of bouncing off the walls as much as I used to be.”

Sporting a flowing Elie Tahari dress and Martin Katz jewels, Elisabeth revealed that she’s been working out three days a week in an effort to reclaim her pre-baby body. As is so often the case, the last 10 pounds of baby weight are proving to be tough to shed — physically, as well as emotionally. She adds,

“Losing baby weight is very hard…because you’re attached to your baby weight. You like it.”

Easton is Elisabeth’s daughter with fiancé Ron Wooster.

David Alan Basche Shows Off Livia Charles

She’s only seven weeks old, but the daughter of David Alan Basche and Sideways star Alysia Reiner is already following in her parents’ footsteps. “She knows how to mess up that diaper right on cue,” David, 40, tells Life & Style about his baby girl, Livia Charles Basche. “She has perfect comedic timing, just like her mom.”

In fact, timing was everything when it came to Livia’s birth! “We made it to the birthing center just in time,” says Alysia, 38, describing their December 5th ride in NYC’s rush-hour traffic. “I went into labor at 2:45 p.m. and gave birth at 5:14. She came so quickly. I was very, very lucky.” Indeed, the 7-pound, 21-inch infant arrived so rapidly, there was no time for daddy jitters. “I think it happened too fast for me to be a basket case,” says David, who stars on USA’s The Starter Wife. “I’m a little bit of a basket case now.”

What Might The First Daughters Wear To The Inaugural Balls?

Whatever your politics, there are many reasons to look forward to Inauguration Day. For the first time in years, we’re going to have little girls in the White House! One of the things we can’t wait to see is what First Daughters Sasha Obama, 7, and Malia Obama, 10, will wear on the biggest day of their lives. Not only do they have the Inaugural Ceremony and Ball, there’s also a kids’ ball afterward for all of the children who are now a part of the extended political family in Washington. We’re told that while the girls may opt for tea-length dresses with fuller skirts and shiny fabrics for the grown-up parties, they’ll want shorter, brighter and less formal dresses for the kids’ party. We came up with some looks we’d love to see them wear for the balls — check them out and tell us which are your favorites!

In case you were wondering, Bonpoint is in the running, and told Women’s Wear Daily they sent “cotton satin frocks for the evening — in cream for Malia and anthracite gray for Sasha — embroidered with semi-precious stones at the neckline.” Read More
