Boris and Nicole Open Up About Sophie's Spina Bifida

Three-year-old Sophie Tei Naaki bounds into her family’s sunny Atlanta kitchen, all smiles and puffy pigtails. “I made poo-poo in the potty!” she declares as her parents erupt into cheers. It’s the kind of positive reinforcement familiar to all parents of young children, but in Sophie’s case, the accomplishment is truly remarkable. Born with spina bifida, Sophie requires round-the-clock catheterization for her bladder, and she must be diligent about potty breaks. “We celebrate the poo-poo here,” says Sophie’s mom, actress Nicole Ari Parker. “It’s good news in this house.”

There was a time when Nicole and her husband, actor Boris Kodjoe, feared there would be only bad news in their young daughter’s life. “We have gone through so many different emotional levels with Sophie,” says Boris, 35. “We had the fear of her dying to paralysis. All kinds of different monsters attacked us.”

Emma Bunton Takes Slow and Steady Approach to Weightloss

PA Photos /Landov

While some celebrity moms — and even some of her own Spice Girl bandmates! — appear to effortlessly slide back into their pre-pregnancy jeans within a matter of weeks, Emma Bunton took a different path. In a new interview with the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old songstress and mom to 17-month-old Beau Lee says that despite gaining a “normal amount of weight” while pregnant it took one year to reclaim her pre-baby (UK) Size 10 form. Emma explains that she “did it very naturally and slowly,” adding,

“I went to the gym two or three times a week and ate healthily. I breastfed so you can’t go on stupid diets.”

In order to maintain her current weight, with which she is “really happy,” Emma exercises moderately, eats sensibly — and keeps a good perspective! “I go for a run or take our dogs for a walk, and I’m almost enjoying it,” she says. “It’s got to be about balance though, being healthy but not letting it rule your life.” That means occasionally indulging in pizza with friends, and even looking forward to making Beau — who “loves his cuddles” and whom she describes as “so good and funny” — a big brother. Emma adds,

“Beau is my all, my life and the reason I’m happier than ever. I’m enjoying being a mummy most of all, he’s so gorgeous.”

Beau is Emma’s son with longtime partner Jade Jones.

Daniel Goddard Photographed Every Stage of Son's Delivery

Roger Karnbad/Celebrity Photo

Many parents love taking pictures of their baby’s arrival, but actor Daniel Goddard may have gone a little overboard when he and wife Rachael welcomed son Sebastian William 3 ½-weeks ago. “I put on a prime lens on my camera and I shot 36 rolls of film during the birth,” notes The Young and The Restless star. “I got every picture — from her walking into the hospital, to the doctor with a scalpel in her stomach, to the baby’s head in her lap.”

During the c-section delivery, the obstetrician asked Daniel if he “wanted to see [Rachael's] ovaries and insides,” but the 37-year-old declined to get up close and personal with those particular parts of his wife, explaining that “that image would have killed my sex drive!” This decision was fine by Rachael, Daniel notes, because she “didn’t want a camera near her insides” in the first place!

This may have been Daniel’s last chance to capture moments such moments, as the actor “think[s] we’re done now,” sharing that he believes his family is complete with Sebastian and older son Ford Martin, 2 ½. “But who knows?” the actor adds.

Daniel was recently named “Most Beautiful Man Alive” for 2009 by TV Guide Canada.

TheCradle.com's New Playroom

TheCradle.com’s new Playroom was described to me like a virtual Mommy and Me class or mom’s group where moms are exchanging their favorite products, stores, and advice with each other. They’ve created an interface where you can share what you know and are learning about things you didn’t know like “have you heard about the new hands-free Medela breastpump?” or “do you know which supermarkets sell Motts for Tots drinkboxes?” or even “did you hear what Jennifer Garner named her new baby baby?” Of course, like an wiki or database, it is what you make it so hop on over to the Playroom and see what tips other moms are sharing and even share your own!
