Vanna White Makes Single Motherhood Work

Kathy Hutchins/Hutchins

Although most of America has known Vanna White, 51, for more than a quarter century as the ultra-glamorous letter-turning icon of Wheel of Fortune, behind closed doors Vanna says she’s much more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt. “That is the real me,” she tells American Profile magazine. Fortunately, her work on the show has rarely been demanding enough to take her away from the role she singles out as her most important — that of mom to Nicholas, 14, and Giovanna, 11.

Although she needed to hire a nanny several years ago when Wheel was taping shows during the day and night, more recently she’s been going it alone – without hired help, and without a spouse. She credits her family with giving her the inspiration to take on so much at once.

“My grandmother stayed home. In her generation, this is what they did. I have that from her. Then I have the business sense from my mother. She was great with numbers and organization. I definitely have that, as well.”

Nicholas and Giovanna are Vanna’s children with ex-husband George Santo Pietro.

Angela Kinsey: 'I'm Not in Shape'

Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage

In a refreshing display of honesty, Angela Kinsey– who wowed readers with her first postpartum awards show appearance last spring — says that looks can be deceiving. “Here’s the thing; I’m not in shape,” the 37-year-old actress admits to PEOPLE. “There’s not as much of it, but none of it is toned.” Likening nursing to “running a marathon,” Angela says that she “dropped a lot of weight” breastfeeding daughter Isabel Ruby, 8 months.

“I’m like starving after. I remember at nine months, showing [The Office co-star] Jenna [Fischer] my belly and being like, there is no way my body will ever be the same. I would not have believed it for all the money in the world.”

Speaking of her cast-mate, Angela says that the two — who are close friends off the set — have formed quite a competition in the wake of Isabel’s arrival. “She gets more sleep than me, but I lose weight without any effort,” Angela explains. “That’s our rivalry.”

“[Jenna] spends hours at the gym and I’m like, ‘I just pumped. What’s up? I pumped while eating McDonalds and watching TV.’ And she’s like, “Oh, yeah? Well, I slept 10 hours.’ And I’m like, ‘I hate you.’”

Understandable, for Angela reveals that Isabel is sleeping just five hours a stretch. Together with husband Warren Lieberstein, the couple have even begun “working on sleep-training” — with mixed results. “It’s not easy [and] I’m a total wimp,” she laments. “I just want to pick her up every time she makes a noise.”

During work hours Angela is free to do just that, when she — and the rest of the cast — enjoy a daily visit from baby girl. “I wonder what her life is going to be like because she kind of has Uncle Rainn [Wilson], Uncle Creed [Bratton],” Angela mused. “One day Creed and Ed [Helms] were playing the banjo and singing to her and Rainn came up to her and was like, ‘Doot a loo loo’…I love it.” She adds,

“I have three sisters and they were all working moms, and I’m lucky that she gets to come for lunch. A lot of moms don’t have that luxury.”

Niki Taylor: 'I Never Thought I'd Get Pregnant Again'

George Holz for PEOPLE for use on CBB

It was 2 a.m. as Niki Taylor squinted under the dim light in her bathroom, hoping yet again for the two pink lines indicating “positive” on her latest pregnancy test.

For almost 18 months, the 33-year-old model and her new husband, race car driver Burney Lamar, 28, had been trying to conceive, only to be met with brutal disappointment. “Every month it wasn’t happening,” she recalls. “I was feeling more frantic. I needed to stop thinking about it — everybody was telling me this, including my doctor. I was so frustrated and worried.”

She and Burney each underwent testing — including having dye shot through her fallopian tubes to ensure that they were clear. Niki’s ob/gyn assured the couple that both were fine, and asked them to continue to try for another year.

“I just decided, ‘Whatever,’” the model says. “Clomid was going to be the next thing we tried, in a year. I talked about it with [my manager] and she said, ‘Women were made to have babies. You are still producing eggs. You need to relax. Everything has checked out.’”

Taking her advice, Niki tried her best to re-focus. She began eating and sleeping better, working out and lowering her stress level. Then, she realized “something just felt different” and the model reached for that early morning pregnancy test.
