Kate Garraway Has a Pregnant Pal in Daughter Darcey

Long before the birth of a second child, as a pregnant belly begins to swell, parents often find themselves taking time out to explain to their first-born what exactly is growing inside mommy’s tummy. While the concept of a new baby may be over some toddlers’ heads — as many simply enjoy rubbing the burgeoning belly — others children are thrilled with the news and eagerly take on the responsibility of keeping their pregnant mamas company!

Due with her second child this summer, GMTV presenter Kate Garraway reveals that her 2 ½-year-old daughter Darcey Mary‘s initial reaction upon receiving the news that she was going to soon be a big sister was one that the mama-to-be and her husband Derek Draper had expected. “She seemed really pleased. She ran around the room saying, ‘Yippee! Mommy has a baby in her tummy!’” However, shortly after the celebration, Darcey surprised her parents with some news of her own. Recalls Kate,

“But 10 minutes later she announced that she had a baby in her tummy too, so I’m not sure she really grasped the concept.”

While Darcey may be a bit disappointed to learn that there is no baby in her belly, Kate has “high hopes” that her daughter will be a great big sister. “When we recently visited a friend’s baby, [Darcey] was desperate to feed her and cuddle her,” shares the proud mama.

That’s cute. It reminds me of Angelina Jolie saying that her daughter Z, and son Pax thought they were pregnant with monkeys and such in their bellies when Angie/Brad were expecting the twins :)

So cute! My nephew (same age as Darcey) was also “pregnant” when his mom was expecting his little brother. After the baby was born, my nephew’s “baby” somehow turned into a teenager.

That’s a cute story! I did the same thing I have been told when my mum was pregnant with my brother. My mum and dad got me a doll that was my baby when my brother was actually born.

When I was pregnant with my son, my oldest daughter was very excited. She really did grasp the concept that I had the baby in my belly, however, when my son was born, she thought she was his mama. I would often find her laying next to him trying to nurse him. One day I told her that when she grew up, some day she would be a mama. She looked at me with the saddest eyes and said, “but mama, I am his mommy.” I cried. It was so sweet. She still mothers him to this day. He’s a very lucky little boy.
