Serena and Lily Market Sling: Green, Meet Gorgeous!

Nicole Kidman and Camila Alves have been seen carrying little ones in Serena and Lily’s Market Sling ($129) and I swear I feel as gorgeous as they are when I wear it, because it’s got gorgeous all over it.

The color I tested is the Grass/Marigold combination with beautiful hand embroidery in ivory. When 7-month-old Egan, who is teething like crazy, started sucking on the padding, I didn’t worry for a second.  It’s all organic cotton and had no “new-car smell” when I opened the pretty gift box it came in. The fabrics are so, so soft and the grass-green and butter-yellow colors are really striking. It’s so pretty that I left it on even after I took the baby out.

The Market Sling is washable and comes in several color combinations and sizes, but like many pouch slings the sizing is a little bit hit or miss. I took my shoulder-to-hip measurement and found that the size I chose was too big on me, but once I got the correct size I really had no complaints.  I’m told the company is planning to revamp its sizing to eliminate the problem.

There’s a learning curve with all slings and I’m still mastering it but I am not complaining of shoulder and back pain.  It rolls up small enough to fit in the diaper bag, which is a big advantage of pouch slings. The Market Sling is roomy for Baby and somehow allows for more flexibility than others I’ve used. Egan hasn’t fit in my slings in the cradle hold position since he was a newborn, but he snoozed comfortably that way in this one. In fact, he’s fallen asleep in three different positions in the Market Sling. He likes to ride facing out or sitting on my hip, where he feels snug and secure. I haven’t been able to nurse in the Market Sling but I think that’s pretty typical for pouch slings and big babies.  At least I’ve never mastered the technique.

This certainly isn’t a budget item, and because most pouch slings aren’t adjustable it’ll probably only fit one parent, but it’s a lovely splurge or a special gift.  Think of it as a gorgeous accessory that happens to have a comfy little baby in it.

Pros: It’s just beautiful with high-quality organic cotton fabrics and exceptional detail.
Cons: It’s expensive and will probably only fit one parent.

Kristin, what about sizing? I want to buy one for my newborn but I don’t know how they fit. When my son was 7 months he was pretty big, what size did you use to test out?

I have this sling from a review I did for UggaMugga.com…and I LOVE it! It’s my go-to carrier for my 3 month old daughter.

Da, it can only be worn as a sling…it’s not a wrap one with different possible positions…just the old standard sling.

And D, you size it to yourself, not your child. If the sling fits you properly, it will grow with your child. My daughter currently is lying down since she’s a newborn, but will be able to sit up more as she grows…but I love it for right now.

I have the Flax/Sky color and get compliments on it every time I wear it…and my husband does too!
