The beauty of the Peg Perego Pliko Switch Completo Stroller ($599) is that you can make the seat forward facing or rear facing in an instant. With a quick push of the levers on each side of the seat, just unhook the whole seat, “switch” it around, and snap the seat right back in. It has a totally flat recline, which is ideal for newborns, infants or napping children.
The Switch has great suspension, height-adjustable handles, large shopping basket, cup holder, side carry handle and easy fold. Older children can use the rear footboard when the seat is facing forward. If you have an infant, you can snap Peg Perego’s Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 Infant Car Seat onto the frame, making it a travel system.
Putting it Together:
So simple – just attach four wheels, cup holder and shopping basket. Then decide which way you want the seat to face –or switch it around as you please.
The Ride:
The Switch’s ride was super smooth and the push was very easy. The umbrella type handles are height adjustable (tall parents will be thrilled).
The Seat:
The padded seat was wide enough for my 3 year old. He also had enough room height-wise. The backrest can be adjusted to several positions, including a flat recline, which is perfect for newborn use. The leg rest has 2 positions. The seat has Peg Perego’s fantastic 5-point floating harness; which means your child is securely strapped in, but they can move around a little. If you prefer, you can easily attach the floating harness to the seat back. The child tray hinges swings open easily when the button underneath is pushed.
Storage:
The large sized shopping basket is designed for front access. The cup holder (included) easily attached to a knob on either side of the umbrella handles. I was able to get more than a few groceries in the basket.
Sun Exposure:
No chance for sunburn with this full-coverage hood, which can fully tilt down. If you are using the Switch in a flat recline, the hood still gives great coverage.
The Fold:
This stroller has an umbrella fold and can stand up on its own. To fold in the forward-facing seat position: retract the handles and tilt them up, then grab the handle in the back and pull up. Then recline seat backwards to make the fold complete. To fold In the rear-facing position, after retracting the handles and tilting them up, reach under the seat to pull up the handle. Recline the seat afterwords to complete the fold.
Storage:
The stroller includes a zip-on rain cover, a matching foot muff and a cup holder. The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP Infant Car Seat (not included) will click onto the base of the stroller, just remove the seat first. The stroller weight, with the seat on, is around 24 lbs.
Pros: Can use from birth with flat recline or with Peg Perego’s Primo Viaggio SIP Infant Car Seat. Hood still protects the child when in the full recline mode. Excellent foot board with rubber non-skid insert for older children to ride on.
Cons: Does not take other brands of infant car seats. The seat needs to be reclined flat to complete the fold, which adds an extra step to fold and unfold of the stroller. Older children cannot use the foot board unless stroller seat is forward-facing. It was also a little more difficult to fold the stroller when it was rear-facing.
Final Verdict: Overall, we loved this stroller. This is a good day-to-day stroller, with a easy fold and great suspension. The easily reversible seat and flat recline makes it a perfect choice to use with a newborn and will take your child up to the preschool years. The foot board is a great feature to use with an older child.
