Mira Sorvino on the 'Terrible Conflict' of Working Motherhood

Danielle K/Scott A/Bauer Griffin

The role of an adventurer and action hero who also happens to be a mom was too good to pass up for Mira Sorvino. The 41-year-old actress and mom of two signed on to NBC’s The Last Templar because she could so easily identify with the plight of her character, Tess Chaykin. “I think I find in my own life, it’s a terrible conflict, when you have children, to leave them for any length of time to go to work,” Mira explains. “I never actually leave my children…They always come with me.” She adds,

“But I still despair at walking away from them for a long day of work. I try and make their lives as educational and fun and as close to me as possible whenever I’m working. So it’s a real balancing act.”

Mira and her husband Christopher Backus are parents to Mattea Angel, 4, and Johnny Christopher King, 2 ½.

I know that I will sounds like a wet rag for saying this, but as a working mom with three kids I get irked when I hesr celebs complain about how difficult it is to leave their kids for work. The majority are not leaving them at all. I would LOVE to be able to take my kids to work with me. Even if they were with a nanny, they would still be with me and not at daycare (not that daycare is inherently bad, but I think you know what I mean). I like working, but I work because I have too. Striking a work/family balance is so hard, but it’s a lot easier when your kids are coming to work with you and you have the means to surround yourself with others who can help.

I really like Mira Sorvino and her kids are gorgeous. I agree it must be a terrible conflict to leave your kids when you clearly are under no financial duress to do so.
