Becka, the woman is just doing supplemental feeds for the 6 year old, it's not his main source of nutrition. I would assume there still have to be *some* benefits though, or else why would she keep breastfeeding him? I'll admit I don't know how long the benefits exist.

I'm with you MZ. If you still want your six year old to have the benefits of breast milk then why not pump?

I think some of the comments on Jezebel made sense....how is that 6 yr old going to feel if kids from school find out down the road? Why not just pump the breast milk and give it to him in a thermos at school or something? I'm all for women breastfeeding as long as they and their children want (or not breastfeeding) but I just wonder about this particular boy since age 6 is really much older than I've heard of before (max I've heard of is age 4).

I nursed my now 17 months old until she was 13 months old, when she wants to be comforted she puts her hand in my shirt and squeezes my breast...very annoying especially in public....sometimes i think maybe I nursed her to long bc my other two never did that

I'm all for breast feeding and when I have children I will try to breast feed. However, still breast feeding when the child is school aged is just too weird for me. I don't want to start an argument but, it wouldn't be something I'D do.

Thanks re: 20/20 article.

It's nice to see that more and more people are accepting the fact that it's not "weird" to breastfeed past 2 or 3, and that some absolutely normal every day moms (yes - not just the crunchy tree hugging mama's!) breastfeed well beyong the second year of their child's life.

It's lovely to see people say "Hey, what works for your family is your business" rather than "Ew, I'd never do that".
