Michelle Ray Smith: Ready to Return to Work

After Michelle Ray Smith welcomed son Jake earlier this year, she realized that she didn’t want to return to work on the daytime serial Guiding Light. Now that her little boy is five months old, the actress is reconsidering that decision. Recently, she returned to the show for a brief stint and realized that she “would love to work on the show and be written in more.” Jake is “another part of my life,” says the new mom, but “now that I’ve got myself on a schedule, I feel like coming back.”
Getting on a schedule was fairly easy for the 34-year-old, who explains that she “love[s] being a mom” and that Jake “has a very laid-back personality like his daddy…He’s been sleeping through the nights since he was five weeks old.” Like others moms, Michelle hasn’t adjusted to just how fast her little boy is growing up!
“Everybody always says how incredible it is how fast they grow up and you always think, ‘Yeah. Whatever.’ Then you finally have one of your own and it just blows you away.”
Jake’s father is Michael Layden.
