Fisher-Price Kid Tough DVD Player: This DVD Player Holds Up

12/19/2008 at 07:00 AM ET

Preschoolers are notoriously tough on their possessions — but with Fisher-Price’s Kid Tough DVD Player ($150), they can be as rough as they want! It has features such as digital anti-skip protection, a 3.2 LCD video screen, carry handle, rubber hand grips, headphone and video output jacks, simple controls and an easy open door. Accessories included are a 2-hour rechargeable battery pack and a child-rated AC charger/adapter. You can also listen to CDs on it or hook it up to your television (you’ll need a video out cable, which isn’t included). For hands-free viewing, use the kickstand legs. It’s recommended for children ages 3 and older, due to a long cord.

My 3 year old had fun testing this DVD player. While he couldn’t sitlong enough to watch a whole movie, he loved being able to watchepisodes of television shows on DVDs. We ended up using therechargeable battery pack most of the time, since I didn’t feel my soncould handle using it with the A/C Adapter plugged into the wall.

Additional accessoriesavailable for purchase are the travel case with strap ($20 and comeswith pink or blue accents) and the On-the-Go Set ($22), which includesheadphones, a car charger, headphone splitter jack, and a video outcable.

Pros: This DVD player will take a lot of abuse and still workwonderfully. Designed for little fingers, children will love being ableto work it themselves.
Cons:
A little pricey and the battery will only last around 1.5-2 hours at a time.

Verdict: My 3 year old was very rough with the Kid Tough DVD Player and it still held up, so I’m a fan.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
