Water Babies: 'Wow, She's Heavy!'
![]() |
The first thing my 3 year old daughter said when I gave her a 13" Wild Planet Water Baby ($30) was, "Wow, she’s heavy!" Just like a real baby, the full-sized baby weighs in around 6 pounds when filled with water.
Alice named her baby "Annie" after about a minute of holding her. She wasn’t too impressed with the realistic feel of the baby even after I pointed it out. But she did grow attached to Annie quickly. She kept Annie with her for a few days, feeding, changing diapers and even putting Annie down for naps when it was her naptime.
This is one durable doll (she’s been dropped and stepped on plenty without springing a leak) with the few accessories (clothing, teddy bear and bottle). Simple play equals imaginative play to me. I can see this being a toy my daughter will get a lot of pleasure out of for a while.
It’s kind of strange filling the baby up but the funnel provided in thekit saves you a lot of time. Just remember to squeeze the doll nearthe fill-hole so that it fills up quicker.
The dolls are also available in 9" newborn size. All sizes come in Caucasian, African-American and Hispanic skin tones with fashions in yellow, lavender, green and pink. Toys R Us sells a boy version ($25), a bath set ($20) and twin sets ($18), though it’s not clear how large the twin dolls are.
