Kate Hudson Plans Her Schedule Around Son's School Day

Mornings for Kate Hudson start bright and early and the actress is not complaining! Met with a big hug from her son Ryder Russell, Kate admits that his refreshing, positive attitude each day, which always manages to pull at her heartstrings, makes heading to work a more difficult task than usual. "When he climbs into bed with me, wraps his arms around me and says, ‘Mommy, the sun’s up! It’s a beautiful morning!’ I’m sorry, do I really want to go to work then?," says Kate. While the answer is somewhat obvious — "No!" — Kate sends her "special kid" Ryder off to school and plans her day accordingly to ensure she spends as much time as possible with her boy.

"My whole schedule revolves around the time he’s home before and after school; then from 9-3, I am running around L.A. doing a million things."

After all, Kate doesn’t want to miss a day with Ryder, who is at a "fantastic age," turning five in January. The proud mama gushes that "joy literally exudes from that boy’s soul."

Ryder is Kate’s son with ex-husband Chris Robinson.

i usually do not make these type of comments… but oh well… that seems like a long “school” day for a four or even five year old. wonder if it 5 days too? judge… who am i to but still….

In England 9-3 is the normal school day for 4-16 year olds.

My little boys playschool is even available from 9.30 – 3, should parents wish for them to go all day. (My son is 2 and I think 2 afternoons of 12.30 – 3pm a week is enough for his age).

However, a 6 hour school day for a kid Ryder’s age is pretty much the norm!!

Lele, my son was in an all Pre-K in an elementary school from 8-2. I don’t think that is uncommon at that age.

“common” does not mean anything to me. long day for a child that small. some schools in our city (a major US city) still have half days for kindergarten which is 6 year olds. i did not go to school for a full day like that until first grade or 7. personal choice. just one opinion.

duh! who says, “my life is all about me and i don’t take my child into consideration at all?” planning your day around your child, regardless of the hours, is what every mother in the world does.

I think Kate was meaning she gets all the the errands done in that time, so she doesnt have to drag Ryder around – she is getting pure quality time in other words.

Not every mother is like that at all!

Marla, I totally agree! It’s great that Kate’s career comes second to her son as it should, but I don’t see the need for there to be a huge big deal made out of it – gee, it’s a mother’s job.

Well marla and pippa, maybe it’s a mother’s job but not every mum does it!! Because it’s how it should be doesn’t mean it’s how it is for lots of kids. Don’t dismiss it because it’s “normal”. It’s great if Kate does it, and it’s great if you do it.
