Leap Frog Didj Custom Gaming System: Handheld Fun and Learning

Leap Frog’s new handheld Didj Custom Gaming System ($90) is so much fun to play, kids barely realize they’re learning! It’s much more than a handheld game– it’s an amazing learning tool. The Didj comes loaded with a cutomizable game which you or your child can load with current spelling words, age appropriate math facts and more from leapfrog.com. Kids earn badges for reaching higher levels in the games, or for answering 10 questions in a row correctly. Each badge is worth a certain number of points which can be traded to further customize any Didj game through the accompanying Leap Frog Connect software. 

One of the most amusing aspects of the Didj system, according to my 7 year old, is choosing your own avatars. You can create your own "Didjis" online, and then upload them to your Didj!  Any time you want to change characters, you can "die" and become a new one!  The Didj can hold a host of different characters your child creates. Still another attractive feature of the Didj is that games cost only about half of what similar games cost for the Nintendo DS, for example. 

Not only is the Didj entertaining, educational, and customizable in both color and content from within, but Customization Kits in different color combos are available, which allow you to change the look of the Didj’s outside as well. Another handy feature of the Didj is that different players’ information can be stored on the same device, so theoretically at least, siblings can share.

For adults and teachers, the Leap Frog Connect software features a Learning Path, which tracks your child’s mastery of new skills, and which can also be customized to shape and inspire your child’s learning.  It’s hard to think of a better gift for a child who loves games.  Parents can rest easy, knowing that not only is their child having fun, but learning new skills simultaneously.  What could be better?
