Kisha's Kids: Room Decor and Cool Stuff for African-American Kids

Nicole the Good Fairy Area Rug

Children love to see other children who look like them doing things they love to do. There’s such a lack of representation of all cultures in American products that we get excited when we come across new products that depict children of all skintones and cultures. Kisha’s Kids is our latest find! They carry a variety of products designed for African-American children that are high quality, Pottery Barn-esque that will improve the atmosphere of your home and your child’s room.

The original illustrations on Kisha’s Kids products were created by Lizzy Rockwell (of "Hello, Baby!" fame) whose work I love. She creates vibrantly colored images of mermaids, fairies, and brown-skinned children that my daughter easily identified with ("oooh, a mermaid," "I’m a fairy just like her," "I have a drum, too.").  Then Alice asked if they "go in my room" and off she walked with her "art."

The 4′ round Nicole the Good Fairy Area Rug ($150) has a decent pile but the binding could be a bit stronger.  Unless your child has a small room, this will only cover a small play space. Ours currently resides in Alice’s play kitchen. (You’ll also need a pad for this in a playroom because it’s pretty thin.)

Their 16"x16" canvas wall art ($125) is mounted on wood stretchers and and the colors go around the outside so there is no white space to cover (and no need to frame them). There’s even a hook to hang each print by. Just supply the nail/photo hanger.

Kisha’s Kids also sells a nice selection of other products like multi-cultural dolls, including Corolle’s Calin Naima (and Corolle accessories like My First Swing), t-shirts, and bags. There are lots of other great giftables for kids of any culture!
