Jodie Sweetin: Zoie is the 'Most Important Thing in Our Lives'

Life with their almost 8-month old daughter Zoie Laurelmae is just beginning for actress Jodie Sweetin and set designer Cody Herpin, but the new mom, who calls her baby girl "the most important thing in our lives," already has an idea of how she hopes to be remembered. Gracing the cover of the holiday issue of BabyCouture Magazine with her daughter, Jodie is hopeful that Zoie can reminisce about her childhood and "remember us as always there for her, loving her, and having fun with her."
After being adopted, Jodie was raised in a loving, supportive home with a particularly close bond forming with her mother, a relationship she says has provided a sense of guidance for raising her new daughter. "I know [my parents] love me no matter what, and that is something that I hope Zoie will always know," says the 26-year-old, who thinks her adoption and delivery experiences have shown her "that when you have a child, no matter what, you love them with all your heart." Hopeful to foster an open, honest relationship with Zoie — much like the one she shares with her own family — Jodie admits she is prepared to explain to an older child her former addiction to crystal meth, shall questions arise in the future. However, despite the tendency of children to naturally look toward their mother for nurturing, Jodie laughs that Zoie couldn’t be more thrilled when her father walks in the room!
"Well, she is currently finding her voice and learning to squeal. so when she gets really excited about something, or when Cody or I walk into the room, she gets the biggest smile on her face and just lets out this super high-pitched squeal. But it’s the cutest thing, because she’s so happy."

Quite obviously the apple of her parents’ eyes — made evident by Cody’s choice to tattoo his baby girl’s name on his neck — Jodie laughs that while her own sense of style has taken a backseat to more demanding priorities such as diaper changing, Zoie couldn’t be more of a mini-fashionista with "cute little girly things and then some funky stuff as well!" Dressing for comfort like her mama — who says heels make it "hard to carry a baby" — for around the house, Jodie explains that, for a day out on the town, a little more thought is put into Zoie’s outfits. "If we’re taking her somewhere, it’s a longer process — then we go through a couple of outfit changes," shares Jodie, who goes on to say that she is met with little resistance by Zoie when it comes to dressing up.
Blessed with "a great baby" who sleeps an average of twelve hours a night, Jodie and Cody are sure that the need to discipline baby Zoie is still far off and share that in the mean time, the two are "equally" trying to balance the responsibilities of parenthood. However, when the some what dreaded day comes where Zoie is in need of a firm hand, a sheepish Jodie has doubts that she will be the disciplinarian! Says Jodie,
"I have a feeling mom will be the spoiler — I hate to see that little lip and those tears!"
Jodie’s new movie — Port City — is set for release in 2009. Shortly after the interview, Jodie filed for separation from Cody.
