While 10-year-old actor Jaden Christopher Syre Smith is no stranger to the red carpet — he often accompanies his parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith to events– at Tuesday’s premiere of The Day the Earth Stood Still, the spotlight was all on him! Time with his famous parents certainly has paid off for Jaden, as their advice has provided him with a certain ease when it comes to portraying his roles. A savvy Jaden says,
"You got to stay true to your character and you just got to be in the moment."
Taking on the role of Jacob in the film — a boy who is "depressed all the time…and he’s kind of always sad" — Jaden forced himself to "stay true to him," as he depicted a character that’s "not really that nice" to his audience. However, despite the challenging role, Jaden thoroughly enjoyed his days on set — including the scenes that called for him to dig deep! "It was actually really fun on the set and it was even fun during the emotional scenes because I was being in the moment," says Jaden.
With his blossoming career, Jaden shares that, at home, the family of actors like to settle down to watch a good movie. Jaden’s other interest? Math! Why? "Because I’m good at it!"
In addition to Jaden, the couple also have daughter Willow Camille Reign, 8 (pictured). Will has a son, Trey, 16, from a previous relationship. The Day the Earth Stood Still opens nationwide Friday.
