Gwen Stefani Keeps Kingston Steady on Skis

An always-fashionable Gwen Stefani helps 2 ½-year-old Kingston James McGregor stay upright while testing out a pair of skis on Sunday in Deer Valley, Utah. The Stefani-Rossdales were at the mountain over the weekend while dad Gavin Rossdale performed at Juma Entertainment’s 17th Annual Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest.

For more of this rockin’ family, check out our Stefani-Rossdale Family Photo Album! Highlights from the Celebrity Skifest will air on CBS on December 21st.

So stinking cute! She looks so happy! He looks a lot older than 2 1/2 on those skis!

- Jen K on

Yessss, the hair twists are back!!!

My favorite famous family, right there. Gwen even manages to look like the coolest chick in the world on the top of a ski slope!

- Sam on

I want those boots :( Adorable

- brannon on

he look just like his dad from that angle! how adorable!!

- mia on

I know it’s winter and those are ski clothes and she’s beautiful regardless of her dress size, but I love, love, LOVE, that she hasn’t been on some marathon weight loss regimen to get back to pre-pregnancy weight immediately. Way to be a real woman and embrace her own body and let it work at it’s own rate!!

- Shelby on

They are always so adorable together, most definitely one of my favorite celeb families. I do feel however that it doesn’t seem very safe to have a 2 yr. old on skis. Am I crazy? (I don’t have kids so don’t know)

- Elizabeth on

Yikes! Where’s his helmet and goggles?

- Mindy Pannell on

Elizabeth, my grandmother still talks fondly about taking me down the bunny hill in Killington, Vermont, when I was 2 years old (I’m 26 now). I had little red plastic skis and she held on to me the whole time. I’m sure Gwen and Kingston are on the bunny hill, too, which is a small slope. Regardless, he’s in good hands!

- Katie on

wow. those boots are something! Kingston’s very cute!

- brooklyn on

Does Gavin have much contact with his oldest child Daisy Loew? She is never mentioned which is unusual. I believe she is a model now or something like that.

- Blue on

She looks FABULOUS in the first photo, they’re such a happy family!

- Artemis on

So cute!! Love Gwen’s outfit and Kingston is just too cute for words!!

I hope they don’t stop at two – cause they really make an awesome family lol!!

- JM on

OMG get over it! Where’s his knee pads, where’s his helmet, where’s his elbow pads, where’s his eye patch, where’s his toe pads!…god so dramatic. *eye roll* he looks fine to me and she seems to have a good eye out for him…just relax people!

anyway, he looks so cute…i love his hair. She pulled it off once again…looking A-M-A-Z-I-N-G on a mountain in the snow.

- ERICKA on

i’m not sure that kingston needs a helmet and knee pads on the bunny slope, especially since his mom is holding on to him. it’s not like he’s skiing a black diamond

- Sarah on

my 6 year old has been skiing since he was almost 3. it’s great to start that young!:-)

also, as someone else said, i’m sure it’s a “bunny” slope – BARELY any incline at all (practically flat). no need for a helmet! my son wears a helmet now that he’s on the regular slopes, but the bunny slopes are just to get used to skis, the sensations, the snow etc.

they look awesome!!

- amandamay on

Too cute!!!
Does anyone know where I could find Kingston’s sunglasses?

- Max'sMom on

That is so cute! I think Kingston is adorable (as is Zuma!) Gwen and Gavinm (in my opion) are the nicest celeb parents- along with Jen and Ben! Love this family and I really hope for more kids!!

- Mary on

I didn’t really start skiing til I was in my early teens and it’s one of my absolute favorite things to do now, so I think it’s great that Gwen and Gavin got Kingston on a pair so young. As far as his not having more equipment, they appear to be on a bunny slope with little to no incline, and since Gwen doesn’t seem to be skiing herself and can hold onto him, I don’t think it’s an issue here.

That said, Elizabeth (and Mindy), you are right to ask your question. Skiing is a blast, but it can turn very dangerous very quickly. Countless skiiers, even hardcore ones, suffer broken bones, head concussions, even comas and death every year, so wearing the correct equipment-particularly a helmet and goggles-is crucial for everyone regardless of age. So you can stop rolling your eyes and stop with the thetrics, Erica-if you knew anything about skiing, you’d know why Elizabeth and Mindy were being so “dramatic.”

- Lauren on

Oh my, that’s one strange hair style Gwen is sporting. Not my thing, but look at Kingston! He’s not even 3 and he’s already on skis. Kudos to Gwen for getting him started, and that looks like fun.

- DLR in Canada on

I know about skiing and I agree with Ericka. His mom is holding him, when he gets good enough or gets better balance, and is going down the hill by himself then you can ask about the helmet, etc. Until then I think it is very dramatic to think he needs one now.

- Care on

I just wanted to throw into the mix that often it’s recommended you start kids off from the start with helmets/safety gear (bikes, ski etc) just so they know that’s how it’s done. And, to hopefully avoid them not liking the gear. I guess it’s really the same argument I see on here about little ones not wearing sun hats. Lots of folks think if you just start from the beginning they will never know any different and hopefully not fight you on it. That being said, I don’t think the little guy is going to race away from Mom and injure himself. Next year, who knows!!! Kids really do pick things up so fast. I think it’s great they have him out there. I hate skiing (never skied until I was much older) but would love my kids to know how because husband loves to ski.

- kris on

Great pictures.
In the first one – love both of their outfits, how cute. Kingston looks like he’s about ready to cry though :( could be because he’s scared though being it’s his first time skiing. And if it wasn’t meant for little kids like that to ski then I don’t think that they would make skis that small. If any of you watch Jon and Kate plus 8 you will remember that when they went to Utah that they put their sixtuplets; who was small also, in ski classes, along with the Twins.
I personally have never been skiing, but I don’t see anything wrong with this picture. Gwen – whom doesn’t have on skis – is holding on to Kingston tightly; look at her hand and his jacket, she’s not going to let anything happen to him. And the “slope” doesn’t look like a slope at all, it looks like it barely has a incline at all.

The second picture – Not personally a fan of Gwen’s hair here but love the fact that she has the guts to try something new nor does she care what people think, she just does her own thing. Doesn’t Kingston look just like Gavin here!!! Here recently everytime I see Kingston I have started noticing that he’s Gavin’s mini-me. So adorable!

I love Gwen’s style (and Kingston’s) in both pictures, plus both are adorable pictures. Gwen looks so happy in both also :D

- Bancie1031 on

Kingston looks all rockstar! I have to say I agree get a helmet on the little guy…nothing funny about a brain injury! If anyone could rock out a helmet, it would be this family! I want Gwen to make a ready to wear little boys line of clothes!

- aurora mia on

So freakin Cute! Both of them are awesome and gorgeous. Love that they are just out having good ol fun while she rocks her hot Dior boots.

I would also love for Gwen to design a boys line. Something tells me that now that she is a mommy of 2 little guys she might add some more boys pieces!

- Mom of Boys on

How about some bubblewrap?
Would that make you guys with the helmet thing happy? The kid is probably just getting use to the skis, he is not even on a hill. Plus she is holding on to him so tight. We are so overly cautious as parents now as days.

- Bela on

FYI to the people out there coming down on those saying he needs a helmet. According to ANY doctor you speak to, they would HIGHLY recommend a child wearing a helmet during any activities of this kind. It doesn’t matter if his mother is holding him. It isn’t just for the safety reasons to start out with. It is to put a child in the mindset that a helmet is a necessity, not a choice. Our doctor has recommended that our 2 year old son wears a helmet even when on a tricycle or ride-along bike when outdoors. He may be on a small slope, but who’s to say that someone can’t accidentally come up from behind and knock him down? It doesn’t necessarily take a big fall to have moderate to serious injury. So yes. He absolutely should have a helmet on.

- Melissa on

I totally agree with Bela, she’s got a death grip on Kingston, nothing’s gonna happen to him…some people are so paranoid, and the thing is that your kid can fall and get a head injury just walking down the sidewalk! Mine did! Also, if this situation was a 1 time thing for just a little while (as it very well could be for a 2 year old just to try it out) why even BUY a helmet? He’d probably scream to take it off and he’d also probably be grown out of it by the time he went skiing again anyway.

- SH on

Thanks Care.

lol @ bubblewrap. I wish I came up with that one!

Honestly, like others said its probably a bunny slope. No crazy skiing, no giant hills, no trees coming out of nowhere…practically flat area. There’s instructors there also and I think if there was a HUGE issue they would say something…and they can fall at any time while in the snow and be run into any time in the snow…walking around town or down the street you can take a tumble…do they need to wear helmets then too?

Google bunny slope and most of the photos of the kids show them not wearing a helmet and bubblewrap. I think I saw ONE. The episode when the Gosslings went skiing I don’t believe they wore them either. Ya’ll have your opinions on what these parents should do to protect their kids…but honestly it’s none of your business what they do. It’s none of mine either but you all scauld them CONSTANTLY.

- ERICKA on

guaranteed your not perfect parents either.

that’s my point…stop critizing.

- ERICKA on

Gwen looks utterly FAB in that first picture! And I WISH I could look that good with twisties in my hair! Man, she makes it look so easy.

As for the helmet issue, I see both sides. I agree that children should wear helmets and it’s good for them to get used to it, yadda yadda yadda. But, honestly, I don’t think it’s a big deal here. Gwen is right there, holding on to him. He is probably trying out skiing for his first time (or close to it) so she’s probably more concerned for him to get the feel of skiing than making sure his helmet is on and goggle are on and elbow pads are on and kneepads are on…

- Stephany on

You’ve got to be kidding me. Designer snow boots??!! Wow. Anyway, Kingston is very cute, although it’s a little weird to see a toddler skiing when you think he just learned to walk a couple years ago? He looks bigger than 2 1/2! Cute family. Looking forward to seeing more of them.

- Terri on

Do people even wear helmets when they ski? Why would he need a helmet? He’s 2 years old-he’s still close enough to the ground.

- Terri on

If he needed a helmet, don’t you think, I dunno, THE INSTRUCTORS would have immediately said, “He can’t be here without protection”? It’s a liability issue for them, not just safety, either! People need to relax a little. Gwen has him, and I think she knows best if her kid is gonna be going fast enough to end up with a head injury.

- Amy on

My goodness, you people are being so rude to those who are just curious about the safety of a little 2 year old. I was not coming down on Gwen and her parenting, did not know about a “bunny slope”, and just thought all children should be wearing helmets during any sort of physical activity like this. Bela, your “bubblewrap” comment was definitely a little harsh and uncalled for. People were just expressing concern. Geez!

- Elizabeth on

Gwen looks so Gwen and I adore that! They all look great…Gwen is so cool. lol.

- jasmine on

ERICKA – That was my whole point in mentioning the Gosselin’s ski trip to Utah.

Bela – “How about some bubblewrap?” – that’s funny roflmao!

- Bancie1031 on

I was on skis literally 2 months after my second birthday, I love skiing, but I also now snowboard. I am taking my niece 3 on christmas eve out skiing for her first time in january if the weather permits january is a bit cold in canada.

- Angela Lake on

I don’t think the bubblewrap comment was harsh at all. Here are people suggesting a child should wear a helmet on his tricycle or for standing on skis while held by mom. We are raising a bubbelwrapped generation and it won’t be a pretty sight in 20 years time!

- Sarita on

I agree, Sarita. Also, did anyone notice it said “trying out a pair of skis”??? Maybe they’re just testing if the skis fit, which would explain why he doesn’t have all the gear on. Then he’ll probably have an instructor and lots of security around him. Bunny slopes are separate from the rest of the mountain, no one can come from behind and “knock him over”.
I think it’s great that he’s starting so early. I started skiing at 6 and boy did I feel old! xD

- Alice on

Binky bashing now OMG where’s his helmet? We have all done things parenting that someone else will judge, question, find stupid, etc. Leave it. They are a gorgeous fun loving family. I’m sure their parenting skills are fine.

- c-ann on

I totally agree with Ericka.

The bubblewrap comment was hilarious! =)

I live in Utah, I ski, helmets are not part of normal ski attire.

Bunny slopes are for beginners, just to get a feel of the skis, snow, etc.

Should children wear helmets at the playground; the swings and slide. I don’t think so.

Of course child safety is important, but in this case, I do think some people are over reacting.

- gargoylegurl on

I didn’t see this post until after Natasha Richardson passed away. Sarita, I am happily raising my three kids to be a bubble wrap generation after my daughter suffered a traumatic head injury while riding her bike. I hope you never hear from a doctor that your child will likely die, or have to call your husband to tell him to rush to the hospital to say his goodbyes to his only daughter, all because you didn’t put a helmet on your kid’s head.

- Finnaryn on

After the tragic death of Natasha Richardson who was on a bunny slope, Kingston should have had a helmet on–no ifs, ands, or buts about it. End of story.
