How do you explain to your children that you portray a character on television that does drugs and acts out in obscene ways? For Californication star Pamela Adlon, she chose to be honest and upfront with her daughters instead of hiding it. Recently the actress sat down with her 11-year-old daughter to explain to her the difference between real life and television, in case any of her classmates were to make comments to her. She told her daughter that it’s "not appropriate for kids to be watching this. It’s a show for grown-ups."
"I’m extremely proud of the show I’m doing and the work I’m doing, andit doesn’t say anything bad or wrong or anything I’m ashamed of. Ifsomebody says something to you or tries to make you feel embarrassed orsays that I should be embarrassed, I’m not. And you shouldn’t beeither, O.K.?"
Pamela, who also does the voice of King of the Hill‘s Bobby Hill, shares that sometimes her days are a little off the wall and that her life is "like this little secret that I keep with me throughout the day." Her typical day would include going to "do the King of the Hill table read, thenI’d go to Californication, do some weird sex scene or drug thing, andthen go pick up my kids from school." She will then be "with the moms at school, and I’m like, ‘You would never believewhat I did today.’"
Pamela, 42, is married to Felix Adlon. Californication airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
