Brandon Flowers Says Life Put in Proper Context by Fatherhood

There are undeniable benefits to being the lead singer of a popular band, not the least of which is financial security. So notes The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, dad to 16-month-old Ammon, in a new interview with the Times Online. That his wife Tana "gets to stay home and do fun things with the baby" is a source of pride for the 27-year-old. "Our kids are gonna be lucky," he says. At the same time, the time spent recording and traveling the world in support of his music is not without drawbacks.

"He cries when I go to the store. And then if I’m gonna go for a month I think, ‘Is he gonna remember me?’ It’s hard. It’s scary. But we’ll figure it out. People have been doing it for a while."

Brandon, who said earlier this year that becoming a dad had solidified his faith, reveals that although he still doesn’t "feel like a man" his son has taken him "a giant step" closer to that goal. "I’m trying my best to become one," he adds. "And a good one."

"[Fatherhood] puts it all into context. I’d always think of how much I wanna devote my life to what I do and that just hit a brick wall. ‘Uh, I really gotta rethink things.’"

Ammon is the first child for the couple, who married in 2005.

Uh dude, you’re 27, married 3 years, and have a kid. You’re a man now.

Hahaha! Crimpe-I was thinking much the same thing. If having all that you mentioned (plus providing for his family) doesn’t make you feel like a man, I’m not sure you ever will!

not feeling like a man yet doesn’t necessarily make him immature – 27 is young (i just turned 26/female myself and i feel either 17 or 70, sometimes all at once..)

in my opinion you can go through certain things that make you feel almost ‘stuck’ at a certain age, even if you are growing and learning and maturing the whole time..

He didn’t say he isn’t a man he said he doesn’t feel like one. I can understand as you get older you sometimes still feel so young and not like you envisioned you’d feel being a grown up!

Sarita, I think the fact he said “I’m trying my best to become one” does suggest he doesn’t think he is a man.

I think what he said is really profound. Basically he is saying that he still has room to be a better person. He wants to be a better man, a better person, a better role model. We all have room to grow as human beings, we just don’t see it all the time and/or don’t take the opportunity to do so.

I agree Karen. He’s simply saying he can be a better person for his son. I think it’s great!

I totally understand what he means. I am 34, but in some ways I still feel like I am 18 despite hitting major milestones in life. Based on what I know of him, I think he is one of the more commendable musicians/dads.

Aw, Brandon is so great. It really has to be hard on him, leaving his kid and all but I’m sure Ammon loves his dad (and his adorable mommy too. ^_^)
