There are undeniable benefits to being the lead singer of a popular band, not the least of which is financial security. So notes The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, dad to 16-month-old Ammon, in a new interview with the Times Online. That his wife Tana "gets to stay home and do fun things with the baby" is a source of pride for the 27-year-old. "Our kids are gonna be lucky," he says. At the same time, the time spent recording and traveling the world in support of his music is not without drawbacks.
"He cries when I go to the store. And then if I’m gonna go for a month I think, ‘Is he gonna remember me?’ It’s hard. It’s scary. But we’ll figure it out. People have been doing it for a while."
Brandon, who said earlier this year that becoming a dad had solidified his faith, reveals that although he still doesn’t "feel like a man" his son has taken him "a giant step" closer to that goal. "I’m trying my best to become one," he adds. "And a good one."
"[Fatherhood] puts it all into context. I’d always think of how much I wanna devote my life to what I do and that just hit a brick wall. ‘Uh, I really gotta rethink things.’"
Ammon is the first child for the couple, who married in 2005.
