HandMeDowns.com: Raising the Bar on Children's Classifieds

11/17/2008 at 04:30 PM ET

Online shopping can be a daunting task: Sifting through tons of ads on Craigslist or eBay for the perfect, gently-used item takes a lot of time — not to mention, a lot of patience. HandMeDowns.com, a new website for resourceful families, takes the hard work out of online shopping for your children. The site accepts postings from other moms who are looking to sell clothing, shoes, baby gear and more (and even services such as nannying and house-cleaning), and connects them with other moms in their area; so far, 20 major cities are included on the site and they are adding more! It also draws in posts for second-hand clothing and gear from five top classified sites like Craigslist and eBay, doing the web-browsing work for you.

People who want to sell items can name their price, and also offer items for free or to the company’s partner charity, Baby2Baby. Not only are users helping each other — and those in need — but they’re helping the environment as well, recycling gently used items instead of throwing them away. It’s guilt-free shopping at its easiest!

I do sell my daughter’s clothes online to make some extra money. I actually have a myspace account with gently worn and new with tags clothing if anyone wants to check it out! Cute clotehs at a great deal.
