K’s Kids Ryan 28: A Zebra Chockful of Fun

Egan Ryan and Ryan 28

K’s Kids’ Ryan 28
($88.00) is a large, soft and very entertaining zebra who is literally covered with stimulating activities from a bead maze and rattles to a clicking dial and a ribbon forelock.  His ears and mane make crunchy sounds and different toys dangle from each soft hoof. There’s even a picture frame so Baby can see a photo of himself. That’s pretty cute.

My six-month-old son Egan loved sitting up and playing with whatever appendage was in front of him.  As he leaned and reached for other activities I could see him thinking, "If I could only crawl!" Maybe this’ll be the toy that makes him mobile. Egan loved the mirror and the rattle filled with colored balls, which immediately went into his mouth. 3-year-old Finn used Ryan as a tackling dummy, sat on his head and tried to ride him across the wood floor, but Ryan never lost the twinkle in his eye. He seems like he can take a fair amount of abuse and still be ready for action and his saddle encourages toddlers to hop on.

My favorite thing about Ryan is that he never needs batteries, and that’s a beautiful thing.  It’s enough to make me forget that the manufacturer’s "28 activities" claim is a bit generous, as it seems each bead on the bead maze is counted as one toy.

Pros: Soft and colorful with many toys to play with and no annoying sound effects.
Cons: $88 is a pretty salty price tag but it will last into toddler-hood.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
