Chris Rock Jokes Ben Stiller Made His Kids 'Read For the Part'

For the stars who lent their voices as Alex, Gloria, and Marty in the new movie Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the film has turned into quite a family affair! Following the lead of their co-star Jada Pinkett Smith — who appeared on the morning show last week with her daughter Willow Camille Reign — actors Ben Stiller and Chris Rock stopped by the Today show to discuss their roles in the film.
During the light, comic interview, Ben dishes that not only was he a big part of the movie, but his kids were given a chance to act as well. With his two children in tow — daughter Ella Olivia, 6, and son Quinlin Dempsey, 3 — Ben was ready to watch them in action as the pair made their film debut. Unfortunately, however, the duo were a bit intimidated. “They lasted about 45 seconds and then there was crying,” shares Ben, who goes on to reveal that their meltdown was actually used in the film since it was “real emotion.”
Although their father was an instrumental part of the film, the Stiller children were not automatically handed the part, the co-stars joke. With comedian Chris reminding his 42-year-old co-star that he was “leaving out the fact that you made them read for the part,” Ben laughs that — his kids or not — he is a man of equal opportunity!
“Of course. Well, yeah, there’s no favoritism.”
Ella and Quinlin are Ben’s children with wife Christine Taylor.
