Singer/songwriter Keith Sweat took a stand, recently, when he refused to sign a waiver which would have cleared the way for his kids’ participation in the reality TV show Real Housewives of Atlanta. One of the stars of the show, Lisa Wu Hartwell, is mom to Keith’s sons Jordan, 13, and Justin, 10. The couple divorced in 2003. "I do not want my children exploited in that way," Keith, 47, explained to "It would be different if this was more of a family-oriented show on Nickelodeon or Disney."

For her part, Lisa — who is also mom to 17-month-old Edgerton Jeremiah with husband and former NFL pro Ed Hartwell — expressed disappointment with Keith’s decision.

"It’s a shame, because they are such great boys and so much fun. I really wish they could have [experienced this]."

In addition to Jordan and Justin, Keith is dad to two daughters — Keia, 18, and Keisha, 16.

Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo.

I think there is nothing wrong with the decision he made. I do hope that the mom doesn’t make dad out to be a party-pooper. She needs to support the decision, IMO.

Good for the kids. What kind of valuable experience could they have gained anyway from participating?

Gotta go with Mr. Sweat on that one! Way to stand up for his kids!

I think he has tremendous common sense. I hope he sticks to his guns!

Good call!! I’ve tried watching that show and it’s just awful. I managed to get through about 20 minutes. Those women are terrible. No child needs to be seen on that show. I’m with Keith all the way.

I completely agree with his decision.

I honestly don’t think the boys are missing out on anything and their father is actually doing them a favor. Anytime I catch the show in passing or the previous ones (New York and California), I become floored by how spoiled and ungrateful the kids on the show are.

A smart descision. I don’t have a problem with children appearing with their parents on reality shows in general, but I have to agree with Mr. Sweat here. I don’t see any benefit for his children to be involved with this particular show. I also feel that the parents need to be on the same page with their children’s involvement in such projects.

With something like a reality show, both parents should really be on board or it should not happen. If Keith’s ex wants to put her personal life in the public arena then fine but the children should not have to have their privacy invaded at such a young age even if they really want to do it.

It’s funny that Lisa never mentions that she has other children. I know they’re nto visible on camera, but she never even references anything outside of her new husband and new child.

Anyway, I think Keith is making a responsible decision. It doesn’t seem to be out of spite, just good parenting.
