Adrian Varnedoe/Pacific Coast News

Cash in hand, actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon peruses the Los Angeles Farmers’ Market with Jaid Thomas, one of her 1-year-old fraternal twins, on Sunday afternoon. Looks like he’s getting blonder!

Garcelle, 41, and husband Michael Nilon are also parents to Jax Joseph, as well as Oliver, Garcelle’s teen son from a previous marriage.

Jaid wears Nowali Traffic Moccasins in Navy ($25).

Oh wow! Hes amazingly adorable! Does anyone else think he looks the same but his skin & hair lightened? Thats what it looks like to me but either way hes cute!

- Kelly on

Yeah you really can see the changes in his skin and haircolor hes beutiful. :)

- Christine on

LOL! He looks like a girl, he is so adorable. And u can tell he’s a momma’s boy, she’s mostly carrying him. I guess the sun is lightening his hair, genes are tricky creatures.

- Jessica on

wow, it’s amazing how genes work! And to think that Halle’s Nahla who’s is only 1/4 Black has darker features. Both cuties though

- Sindi on

are we sure thats her son?
Mabye its a friends baby. I only say this because he looks alot lighter skinned then her and the baby in the background looks alot like one of her twns being pushed in the green pram on the left by what looks like a nanny and it looks like a double pram. Im just wondering if its posible that maybe its a friends baby and both her babys are in the pram behind her?

- demi on

I love her!! He is beautiful!! Is Jaid wearing the same moccasins as sasha shrieber? I think they might be the same!

- mally on

Im pretty sure they are nowali moccasins, but i couldnt find which ones they were.

- mally on

Look at that blond hair and those big brown eyes!!! What a CUTIE!!! Makes you want to steal him (or maybe just his genes, haha!)

- Jen on

And it looks like that hand tastes REALLY good!

- Jen on

he is to cute! i love the blonde curls.

- Lauren on

Him and Jax are both some adorable! His hair has gotten so blond. I wonder where that gene came from?

- Crystal on

How cute! His blue eyes seemed to have turned brown, and his dark hair has gone blonde. I love genetics.

- dee on

Wow I never knew an African American woman could have a blond-haired child. How does that work out genetically? :)

- LanLan on

Crystal,

Blond is double-recessive, and isn’t given on a single gene. This means that he received it from both parents. And, since neither has blond hair, they each must carry one recessive gene for it (it could have been passed down, hidden, for generations) that they both passed on. This is why naturally blond hair is much less common than, say, brown.

- mtoo on

LanLan, a lot African-Americans have mixed heritage, which explains our variances in skin tones. Our genes are funny like that.

You should look up Victoria Rowell’s daugther…who has blonde hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. Also, Eartha Kitt’s daughter is the same way.

- Megan on

The twin’s dad is WHITE- he has blue eyes! That’s how she can have a child with blonde hair.

- Dianna on

Wow he’s gotten really blonde all of a sudden. He’s so adorable

- Philippa on

Is that the other twin in the stroller behind her?

- Elena on

Wow I never knew an African American woman could have a blond-haired child. How does that work out genetically? :)

Lanlan

Wen i read comments like this it really shows how lil ppl know about black ppl and i it just piss me off.
its true that a lot African-Americans have mixed heritage.
But just like with white ppl a child has genes of both parents .
What im try to say is a if a black women marry a white man is possible the child look just like his white father.
Just like it is when two black ppl marry or two white ppl.
But this is just comment sense

- Delila on

I was wondering the same thing Elena. Not trying to anger you Delila but sorry I have to ask …. is the father white? And also I have to ask why did that comment “piss you off”? That’s not something they teach in school. If white people don’t ask then their not going to know – just like with anything else. It was a innocent comment that she wanted a honest answer to. Just like I know that their father might be black or he could be white. The baby might have light skin and blonde hair from genetics but I’m curious because I’m not sure whom either parent is so I’m asking, because I’m honestly wanting to know and I’m curious.

I’m not quite sure who Garcelle is but she is stunning! And her baby is adorable :D

- Bancie1031 on

…and ladies, garcelle is not african-american. she is hatian (i think, definitely and island girl). not to nit-pick.

- sonya on

Bancie-

Per Dianna’s comment a few post before yours and Delila’s, Garcelle’s husband is white.

But it is true LanLan, may not have known this. Though, I myself am dark skinned, have brown eyes and black hair. While, my sister is fair skinned, has grey eyes, and had sandy colored hair as a child. Both of our parents are black.

- dee on

Cute moccasins – I clicked on the store website and what a great shoes. European quality styles – brands I never heard of – I will be buying some shoes and slipers for 2 of my kids.

- Gina on

And, to add to the comments about how Jaid has blond hair… well, he has blond hair NOW. By the time he’s ten, it might well have changed again. You can never tell with babies. My sister was nearly white-blonde as a small child, and now her hair is dark chocolate brown. Why don’t we postpone the ‘Wonders of Genetics’ discussion until Jax and Jaid are say, twenty?

- Margot on

I love how interesting genetics can be. He’s quite the cutie.

- Carrie Jo on

He has gotten cuter as he has gotten older. He’s adorable!
As far as him being light skinned and fair, as others have said it’s genes. Most people have such a mixed family tree especially over the last say 100 years. Which means even if the last 2 or 3 generations have all been of the same race, genes can still sometimes throw that off. A few years ago a white couple who both had white parents gave birth to a dark skinned child, they traced their heritage at some way back the line their had been a black raced person in the family.
My friend who has dark curly hair is married to a black man, they have two children, the son has brown hair and fairly light brown skin, the daughter has darker skin and brown hair, but with a blonde streak through it, which is really unusal hehe.
As the saying goes you never know what your gonna get. :)
Don’t assume if your both blonde you will get a blonde child. ;)

- Danielle on

ooh and forgot to mention.
Ben Harpers 2 youngest gorgeous kids are both blonde and light skinned, although I think Ellery has gotten a little darker as he has got older. But Jaya is really light.

- Danielle on

How cute is he! I want one!

- Natasha on

Isn’t that Jax sleeping in the stroller behind them?
