Tamzin Outhwaite Tries Not to 'Gush' About New Baby

Grateful for a "textbook" baby who has "only ever cried real tears once," Tamzin Outhwaite says that she and husband Tom Ellis are still fully entrenched in the babymoon phase with 4-month-old daughter Florence Elsie. "I’m very aware of gushing, because it’s really not that interesting for anyone else," the 37-year-old former EastEnders actress tells the Times Online. "Tom and I gush to each other, but I think that’s OK."

"He is absolutely relishing it all. We’ve had four months with just the three of us at home. You can’t ever get that time back, so I feel really lucky."

Tamzin, who says she is "pretty calm in general," found herself feeling anything but while pregnant. She admits that she even developed superstitions that left her afraid to "buy baby things, like a car seat, until the last minute." Once Florence arrived, instinct and experience took over. "I had lots of babies around me when I was younger," Tamzin explains. "I was always changing nappies, burping them and winding them." The couple — who were initially aided by a night nanny — also received help from a familiar face. Reveals Tamzin,

"My mum came to live with us for two weeks, helping with the cooking and so on, which was great. It’s so easy to neglect yourself when you’ve got a little one."

When it comes to shedding the baby weight Tamzin is taking a slow and steady approach, doing Pilates and working with a trainer once a week, as well as avoiding carbohydrates after 6 p.m. Noting that she’s "quite slim naturally" and has "never been much of a dieter," pregnancy has a way of defying even the best of genes. Says Tamzin,

"We’re all susceptible to getting a bit bigger after too much of the good life."

Already a stepmom to Tom’s 3 ½-year-old daughter Nora, who is "really excited to have a new baby around," Tamzin reveals that the couple would like to have more children — in due time! "I’d like to enjoy this one a bit first," she says.
