Mark Wahlberg Enjoying Fatherhood; Planning to Wed

Scott Kirkland/INF

Despite being instructed by his fiancée Rhea Durham to not "talk about anything that personal" while attending the premiere of Max Payne in Hollywood, Mark Wahlberg confirmed the rumors that the newest addition to the family has been named Brendan Joseph, adding that their baby boy was named in honor of St. Brendan. Between Brendan, 4 weeks, and the couple’s two other children — Ella Rae, 5, and Michael, 2 ½ — the 37-year-old actor jokes that in his household, the parents have been "outnumbered," but Mark wouldn’t have it any other way. "It’s the best! It’s awesome. There’s not as much sleep though," confessed Mark.

Besides their immediate plans to concentrate on their children, Mark revealed in a press conference over the weekend that he and Rhea will tie the knot in August 2009. The couple have chosen a "Catholic church, small, family only" wedding and are determined that there will be "no media." According to Mark, there will absolutely be "no wedding pictures sold to any magazines!"

Catholic wedding?! HA!

I don’t mean this to be intrusive or rude, but I’m curious as to how Mark and Rhea can marry in the Catholic church, since they live together and have three children together.

My fiance and I were thinking about having our ceremony in the Catholic church but cannot, as we live together.

I’m wondering how Mark and Rhea can.

Anyone know?

Ashley, that’s an excellent question. As a former Catholic, I’ve noticed that “rules” tend to vary from parish to parish, or parishoner to parishoner. For instance, a friend of mine was prohibited from standing godmother to her niece, because she was married to a divorced man. But somehow, Tommy Mattola has celebrated at least one of his three weddings in the Church to my knowledge; there’s a famous pic of Mariah Carey & him exiting St Patrick’s in NYC after their wedding–she was his second wife, and he had children from his nearly twenty-year first marriage. OK, maybe I, like you, need someone to explain this to me . . .

I was wondering the same thing about them being able to marry in the church.

I’m Greek Orthodox, which is similar to the Catholic church in some ways, and one of my cousins was married outside of the church but when he and his wife had a baby they had a combo baptism/wedding ceremony in the church.

Married three kids later…hmm. I think it’s great that they are getting married, if she’s really the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But if she is- I wonder why it took many years and 3 kids for him go through with it?

It’s about time he married her. Guess I am old fashioned but I believe in marriage first then kids – especially 3 kids!
