Calgary Flames defensemen Robyn Regehr and his wife Christine have welcomed their first child, a son. The 7 lb, 2 oz. baby — born at 1:58 a.m. on Friday — has a name, but the couple haven’t opted not to share it with the media. When the decision was made to induce Christine, Robyn, 28, was in Vancouver for an away game; He left the venue and headed straight for the airport so as to not miss a thing.

"It’s an amazing, exciting moment for anyone. Particularly, I’d think, the first time. Hopefully, they’ll be home [Saturday] and watching the game on TV. I can’t wait to spend some time with them. I can’t wait for them to come to the rink the first time to see a game."

After returning to his team, Robyn said that the whirlwind events of the preceding 24 hours were good practice for what almost certainly lies ahead. "Part of being a parent is sleep deprivation," Robyn said. "I’m just getting in on the fun."
