It’s more about the language in the songs than it is about the theme of them. If I one day have a son, I do not want him going around singing about ho’s and thinking that is an acceptable term to refer to women just because he’s heard it in a song. Our kids grow up so fast already, I don’t need my daughter getting that kind of language in her vocabulary or believing that she deserves to be called names because a singer says it’s okay. I listen to all music before letting her listen, and the same goes for the little television and films I allow her to see.

I do understand where you’re coming from Missy, but Like A Virgin and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, while a tad sexual, are not offensive and do not use derogatory terms and would not encourage children to run around singing about ho’s. I would be far more concerned about hearing that than I would about the odd line from a pop song.

And yes, I do practice what I preach. My daughter listens to some selected Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs with a good side helping of Led Zep and The Beatles. I listen to everything she hears before she hears it, and there is no way any song about ho’s will be making it into my car or house or ipod where my girl might hear it. I do NOT want her going to nursery and coming out with that.

I know what the song means I do not need an “Urban Dictionary” LOL to know what that means. All I am saying is songs I liked like Whitney Houston ” I want to dance with somebody” was about sex. Tina Turner “Private Dancer” was also. I was young listening to those songs. Music is a form of expression. Like I said “Superman” is not one of my favorites her son likes a part in the song doesn’t mean he is going to go supersoak that ho! That’s what mean I about lighten up!

Lauren, you’re completely right, music like that has it’s place, but not in a child’s world. I would never allow my daughter to listen to something like that.

Tell ya what-go to urbandictionary.com, look up what “Superman” and “Supersoak that ho” means, and type with a straight face that a 4-year-old listening to and singing those words is anything other than completely disgusting. Something tells me anyone who thinks a child singing this song is cute has no idea what the song is about. And if they do, that makes it even worse.

I normally don’t comment but I have to say something. Growing up I listen to all types of music and Madonna is one of my favorites and of course some of her songs were inappropriate but my mother did her job and monitor me as I listen to it and made sure I appreciated the art of the music and not mimic it. Okay, I get why Solange might get a kick out of her son singing the “Yooouuu!” opening line; beyond that, I find it really sad that she thinks (Crank That(Soulja Boy) is anywhere *near* appropriate for a 4-year-old. I wonder if she’ll get a kick out of him walking around saying “Superman that ho?”

I didn’t know that NKOTB Joe McIntyre had a son!!! Now that their coming out with a new album maybe we will start seeing pictures of them with their children, as I do believe that all of them now have kiddies.
