I think the article on disciplining others’ children is bang on. It’s a slippery slope for sure-I know I have felt guilty when telling my godson and his brother not to do something in front of their parents-but as one of the posters responding to the article said, when children act out/are disrespectful in public, anyone affected/disturbed by it has the right to express their feelings provided they do so as politely as possible. My godson’s mom is far more lax regarding his and his brother’s behavior than I would and do permit when they are under my supervision and thinks of nothing of telling stories about how my godson threw a fit in the market while other people walked by and stared or they didn’t feel welcome at their old church because their older son was admittedly loud and disruptive. Much as I love her, she either does not or refuses to understand that while *her* world revolves around the boys, *the* world does not. And when they misbehave, it disturbs and upsets those around them.
