Playspot by Skip Hop

Skip Hop Playspot

I have to admit that when our babies were crawling, my friends started covering the floors of their kids’ rooms with those ABC foam mats and I was tempted to get a set because they were soft. They had done the legwork but couldn’t find any other good options. Of course, once Anya outgrew that stage, Skip Hop came out with Playspot, a stylish soft customizable floor coverings that is approved for use for kids under 3. Also, unlike the ABC mats, theirs do not come apart easily and the pieces are not choking hazards. They also come in three different color schemes which are so much nicer than standard primary colors.

Glad you mentioned this. I love many of the Skip Hop products and this is no different.

When my eldest son first became mobile, I too bought him the standard ABC’s and 123′s foam play mat. He’s now six, so at the time, the playspot didn’t exist. Instead of playing ON the mat, he decided he just wanted to pick it apart and after awhile, the foam didn’t hold up.

When my second son was born a little over a year ago, I received the playspot as a gift from one of my co-workers. I have the brights one which mainly focuses on the primary colors. Now that he’s on the move and 10x more mischevious than his brother ever was, I’m thankful I have it.

I have found a few downsides to this product. My 1 yr old easily pulls apart the pieces and chews on them. Also the foam is easily scratched and dented. That said, it is very cute and has held up pretty well so far. It is easy to clean, although I would recommend cleaning underneath it every so often as well. I am a huge skiphop fan and would buy this product again.

I really love the design and overall look of the mat, however we are not thrilled with the quality of the ship hop play mat. It took my 6-month old three days to figure out how to take apart the mat and chew on the pieces. It also dents very easily and is not durable. I love skip hop products but do not recommend this mat.
