Brooke Shields Says Education Comes First for Daughters
Brooke Shields has often made the act of juggling motherhood and career appear effortless, but in a new interview with the Times Online she reveals that she shares the same concerns and worries as most working moms. Brooke, mom to 5-year-old Rowan Francis and 2-year-old Grier Hammond, admits that "there’s not a day that goes by that I feel like I’m doing everything right or perfect." The 43-year-old Lipstick Jungle actress adds,
I’m on the set of Lipstick, committed, yes, but constantly wondering how my kids are, where they are, sad when my daughter asks if she can stay up until I get home — which, of course, I say yes to now, meaning that both girls are in my bed at night, even though I said I would never allow that.
In order to shoot the show, Brooke moved to New York City with the girls while husband Chris Henchy joins their family on the weekends. Although the arrangement is far from ideal, Brooke says she feels that "the city is the best place to raise kids." And should Rowan and Grier choose to pursue a career in the entertainment industry for themselves, Brooke says she already has at least one rule firmly in place.
First, an education — that’s non-negotiable. I’ve learned the importance of university myself. Unlike a TV role, nobody can take it away from you.
The second season of Lipstick Jungle premieres September 24.
