Soleil Moon Frye Wants the Secret Mom's Handbook

Just in case you’re wondering how celebrity moms make motherhood look so effortless… well, they’re wondering too. Actress Soleil Moon Frye, co-founder of The Little Seed, and now mother to two daughters, Poet, 2 ½, and Jagger, 5 months, admits to CBB that she doesn’t know how other mothers manage two kids at once and make it look easy. She says,

I’m totally the mom who tries really hard, but then I walk out of the door and trip down the stairs. I’m learning every day, and every day is a different challenge.

I have no idea how my mom did it as a single mom. I have so much respect for all of the single parents out there, all the families that have multiple kids and juggle jobs and careers.

On her store’s new Seedling Blog, she wonders if she’s alone in thinking that "all of the other moms got a secret handbook that you somehow missed out on" that tells you things like:

  • not to leave your heavy diaper bag on the stroller when you take your kid out,
  • how some parents manage to open strollers with one hand,
  • why we can never remember to "bring a change of clothes for ourselves [when] with the amount of spit up, we need it more than them,"
  • and why it’s so hard to carry both kids at once – "Are [the celeb moms in magazines] secretly inpain or is it really that comfortable?"

Have you ever wondered how other moms do it? What parenting secrets do you wish someone would let you in on?

Same smile!

Love this! It is so refreshing to hear a celebrity say that she doesn’t have all the answers.
I have admired a friend who has 3 under 5 years old. Her advice to me was that you CAN’T do everything. So, she tells me her house is messy but that since her priority is her kids, she has learned not to notice.

I love the name Jagger!
What adorable little girlies!

As far as secrets, after my first was born I probably had hundreds that I needed in on.
Seven years and 3 kids later – I’ve given up.
I realized that the only time I was a perfect mom was BEFORE I had kids! lol!

The girls are beautiful…..and it’s nice to hear that she is just a regular mom who sometimes feels a little overwhelmed like the rest of us. I had to laugh at the “not to leave diaper bag on the stroller” comment, as I did that numerous times when my son was a baby.

I find this so refreshing!! Someone who is honest about how it can be difficult. Now for me I have 4 kids under 6 so I long for the days (that started this week) that the 2 oldest are in school and I only have to take 2 with me out of the house, that seems like a breeze to me,..LOL.

The truth is, my house is messy too. As soon as I get one room clean the other room is a mess and its an ongoing circle. I try but I really don’t care. Because If I have to choose between taking my kids to the park and scrubbing my floors, I take them to the park because thats what means more to them, and in turn to me.

I also agree with the comment about being a better mom before I was one. There was a book with a similar title I seem to remember. The best moms I know have no kids…just idealistic views..LOL

I love her! how refreshing to hear a mum who admits her faults so oten today in society we feel the need to hide them… if ind her ‘real’ as opposed to tori who wants to be ‘real’ but comes off as fake.
I wish that more mums would be honest- or those that are the mummies with it all woudl share the secrets!!! lol

Jagger is adorable and Poet is SO cute!

This picture made me smile. =D
The innocence of children is beautiful thing, isn’t it?
Beautiful picture and beautiful girls! They both look so happy.

Messy house here too. I’d much rather spend quality time with my kids while they are young then have a pristine house.

- Lorus on

I have always wondered how mothers carry two kids at the same especially toddlers

- Renee on

I always wonder the same thing about celebs carrying more than one kid at once!

“Angelina must have unreal upper body strength… those kids can’t be THAT light anymore!?!” LOL

- Shaunie on

Uh, I had the manual but just yesterday my infant spit up down my back. While changing him my toddler spilled milk on the manual and decided to wash it off in the toilet…

I wish that I had been able to read through a little of the manual, but unfortunately I have not been able to read anything other than the “how to open” directions on the aspirin bottle for the past three years…

- kristen on

She seems cool!! But how about carrying 3 kids at one…lol I have triplets and still can carry 3 (only for short distances)!
