Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Expand Their Charitable Foundation

Nicolerichiejoelmadden223987_cbbSince launching the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation together in December, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have made great strides toward supporting international non-profit organizations in the areas of health care, education and human rights. Now, according to the PEOPLE, the couple is expanding their philanthropic reach, launching a new leg of the foundation dedicated to helping mothers in need.

Signing up through the social service agencies, families in need will create a "wishlist" of basic baby items they need, such as blankets, cribs, and strollers. Those interested in helping can "shop" each family’s registry, choosing what they’d like to donate — much like a wedding or baby registry. The idea is that in lieu of giving monetary donations, those willing to help will instead anonymously purchase items to be sent directly to the women in need. Nicole tells PEOPLE,

We take for granted the basic necessities. For some families, it’s aserious struggle. This is one way to ease thefinancial burden, and help new babies have a good start in life. We areonly working with companies and products that Joel and I would use. We’re checking every product out for safety – and all products areBPA-free.

Nicole and Joel started their organization prior to the birth of their daughter Harlow Winter Kate, now seven months old. The registry website will be up and running soon, serving New York and Los Angeles initially, then expanding.

I think it is SO awesome how much Ms. Ritchie has seemed to settle down. And funny, she doesn’t have to advertise!

I have seen so much growth in her, and I’m so proud of how she’s matured in such a short amount of time! May God continue to bless her and her new family….

That is SUCH a good idea! Go Nicole!

What a great idea! Nicole has shown so much growth and maturity and this foundation is outstanding! I am one who LOVES shopping for baby clothes and gear (although I don’t have a baby yet). My mom had a man at her work whose wife went into labor 2 months early and they were really tight on cash and didn’t have any clothes ready for this new baby. They had a few older children but either they didn’t keep their old baby clothes or they just wouldn’t fit (seeing as how she was a preemie) and I just felt it in my heart to buy them some clothes and blankets for the baby. I had so much fun buying the gifts and the man was so grateful.

It’s a great idea and I am DEFINITELY going to keep checking back when it’s up and running to donate to women in need. Good job, Nicole!

Nicole has done a huge 180 and I am so proud of her. She has become a wonderful mom, as well as a wonderful person.

I will take part in this most definitely!

That is a great idea! I love shopping for baby items but as I don’t have a baby yet, this is so great, shopping for somebody else’s baby and help them at the same time. Though I live in Montréal, I think I am too far to possibly help.

Nicole really has changed since the last year and it is so great, she is such a great mom and human being. I’m so proud of her. The DUI, and other stuff are all behind and it is so much better that way. I didn’t think she would change that much, but now she is so generous and seem like all of that never happened, and she is glowing.

Continue that way Nicole!
You’re great! I’m proud of you! We all are!

WTG Nicole!! Love how she is just awesome now and selfless and everything isn’t about her anymore since Harlow came along! :)

I’m glad Joel and Nicole are doing this.
