The Snuggly: Warm and Fuzzy All Over
We seem to go through a blankie each and every year with our 4-year-oldOwen. He puts his blankies through the paces, lugging them everywhere, and before long they’re almost always in tatters. We recently received The Snuggly, however, and to say it has staying power is an understatement. Crafted of 100% New Zealand high country merino wool, The Snuggly looks and feels like it will last Owen a lifetime.
Creator Daneen Lascelles grew up in New Zealand, with a father whomade his living as a wool buyer and grandparents who were wool farmers. When she couldn’t find a traditional New Zealand wool blanket for herdaughter, she decided to make one herself — and that’s when TheSnuggly ($143) was born. What I like best about Daneen’s blanket isits weight; It’s so sturdy and substantial that I have no concernswhatsoever about it standing up to the rigors of toddler use. Despitethe heaviness, merino wool is incredibly breathable, so Owen doesn’toverheat when he’s curled up in The Snuggly. While wool on its own hasa tendency to look rather utilitarian, Daneen dresses The Snuggly upnicely with French satin edging. The seam of our blanket — in blue(shown at intro of review) — also has delicate flower detailing. TheSnuggly comes available in a variety of colors, including baby pink, baby blue and lemon.
This isn’t a blanket I would necessarily reach for with a newbornbecause — ventilation properties aside — the merino wool, while soft, isn’t the softest thing against baby’s skin. It also isn’t inexpensive. But I positively adore The Snuggly for a toddler or preschoolerin need of a blankie. Its generous size (47×59") means that it willgrow with your child while its exceptional craftsmanship has itdestined for heirloom status; The Snuggly will last as long as you needit to, and who knows, it might just keep your grandchildren warmsomeday.
