Busy Philipps Welcomes Daughter Birdie Leigh

Actress Busy Philipps and husband Marc Silverstein are first-time parents after welcoming a baby girl. Daughter Birdie Leigh Silverstein was born on Wednesday, August 13th, weighing in at 9 lbs, 7 oz and 21 ½ inches long.

Busy, 29, announced her pregnancy in January, and revealed the sex in March. During her pregnancy, she did an in-depth interview with The Cradle, discussing hypnobirth and her thoughts on names. In addition, we recently featured her “Happy Bump Chic” in a maternity fashion gallery — check it out!

One of my favorite books (“Caucasia” by Danzy Senna) features a character named Birdie Lee. I wonder if that’s where Busy got the inspiration for the name or if she just thought it up on her own. Either way, I think it adorable.

i HATE the name. i would definitely say that could be one of the worst celebrity babies names out there. but as long as they are happy, that is what matters i guess.

Aw, I bet that baby is cute! Can’t wait to see her. I’m sorry to say it, I dislike the name, but as long as Busy and Marc like it, that’s all that really matters . I guess I was just half expecting something along the lines of the traditional Matilda Rose of Busy’s Goddaughter. Congrats to the couple!

That’s quite a “Big Birdie” at over nine pounds and 21.5 inches! I actually think of Birdie as more of a nickname (kinda like Chicki), but I congratulate them nonetheless. The more I hear it, the more I like it!

I agree chicki! It does sound like a nickname. Like coco, I like her name but it seems like a nickname. I am not sure if I like the name Birdie yet, but I think it will grow on me, unlike Peanut. But, as long as they like it, that is all that matters. Man, it seems like she has been pregnant forever! Her, Lisa Marie and Gwenyth. And yes, that is a big baby. And she wanted to deliver natural with hypnobirth and an almost 10 lb baby. Ouch! Makes my whooie hurt just thinking of that! I am curious to see if she was able to do her natural birth she wanted. @sara: Yes – Busy is a nickname.. Her real name is Elizabeth Jean Philipps – her parents gave her the nickname Busy because she was always moving as child!
Actually – i don’t like the name Birdie, but Leigh – very cute! Congratulations to Busy and Marc!

Congratulations to Busy and Marc. I personally don’t like the name Birdie but when your the mom and go by the name Busy you need a unusual name and it definitely is unusual. And just for the record Busy’s real name is Elizabeth Jean Philipps. As a baby her parents gave her the nickname Busy because she was always moving and it just stuck. Since she shared so much of her pregnancy with us I hope that she also shares Birdies pictures with us. ….. You know I think Birdie is going to grow on me …. the more I hear it and say it the more it just flows IDK we’ll see.

Very cute! I have never seen the movie Hope Floats so can’t say that I’ve ever come across the name Birdie before. Obviously it reminds of a bird, but there is something sweet and delicate about that. As someone above mentioned it’s also a nice twist on the name Bridie. I can’t say it’s a name I would ever choose for my own child but it’s definitely cute and the mommy daughter combo of Busy & Birdie is hard to beat!

I dont want to sound mean or anything…but Birdie?? I just dont understand why celebrities chose wild and crazy names for their kids. The names may be cute now but what happens when there in school or when they are adults.

KayR, celebrities aren’t the only ones selecting mildly/totally crazy names for their kids. the other day i was watching TV and there was a girl named “sunshine.” and i remember an article from the associated press about a court ordered name change for a little girl in new zealand named “talula does the hula from hawaii”. that WHOLE THING was her name! so which would you rather have: birdie or talula does the hula from hawaii?
