Spice Girl Mel C.'s Path Doesn't Include Kids … For Now

If you’re hoping for another baby to join the Spice Girl family, don’t go looking at Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm, aka Mel C. In fact, don’t even "mention the ‘B’ word" to her! The 34-year-old loves kids and believes that "it’s great" that the other Spice Girls are moms, but she says "we all have different paths in life, and mine doesn’t include babies right now."

Even though she isn’t feeling broody at the moment, she knows that "at some point babies will be part of my future, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with feeling happy without them."

Mel C. has been dating property developer Thomas Starr for the last six years.

Good for her for not feeling pressured to have kids just because all her bandmates do, but…. I sure hope she doesnt change her mind when it’s too late to concieve naturally.

I don’t like that people feel it’s ok to ask such a personal question such as “when are you going to start a family”. I don’t think many people realize what a tough time some women have getting pregnant or carrying a baby to term. My best friend has problems with infertility and she wants to be a mom more than anything and I also know how much it hurts her when people ask her that question. She always responds with she isn’t ready yet or the time isn’t right but knowing what a difficult time she is having becoming a mother, I would NEVER ask any couple a question that personal because it really isn’t anyone’s business no matter curious they may be.

Dannie, I have to agree with everything you said. It’s such a personal question. I’m also tired of newly married celebrities being asked when they are going to have children: like they should automatically get pregnant as soon as the reception is over. (Eva Longoria and her husband come to mind.) What is wrong with newlyweds just enjoying each other for a few years?

I also agree with Dannie. I have quite a few friends who have had many infertility issues, so I would never ask anyone if they were going to start a family. I also have a lot of friends who don’t want children and who I’m sure get sick of people asking them that. I love being a mom, but I know it’s not for everyone. Everyone needs to make the choice best for them.

And maybe she doesn’t even want a baby. I agree with everything Dannie, et al. said. But also, I think there is a lot of pressure now on female celebrities of child bearing age to want to have kids. Not everyone does, but they may still feel like they need to say at some point they do. And it’s OK to not want to have kids too.

Melanie has said before that she had concerns that she might have fertility issues becuase she had an eating disorder for several years. So that could be why she bristles at the question of when she’s going to have kids. She’s always said that she wanted to have kids, but usually says she says she isn’t ready yet . . . so who knows? But I agree that the question of when someone is going to have kids can be too personal, though it has become common to ask.
