Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn Expecting Twin Girls

OconnellromijnActors Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn have made no secret about their desire to be parents, and it looks like they will get their chance. The pair have announced that they are expecting twins this winter, and a source tells People.com that the babies are fraternal twin girls! They also reveal that the babies were conceived without the help of in vitro fertilization or Clomid. The babies are due in early 2009.

Jerry, 34, and Rebecca, 35, were married on July 14, 2007.

- dsmom on

- Sara on

Well congrats to them! lol

- JM on

awww yay! i’m so happy for them! i totally love jerry and rebecca!
:)

- annie on

I too was surprised by this news, mainly because it’s twins! Lol. There are so many twins being born and not just in Hollywood. A friend of mind who has three sons, all single pregnancies, just found out they are expecting again and it’s twins. I know that’s only one other person outside of Hollywood, lol, but I just found out she was having twins then read this etc… it just seems like twins are everywhere. I think it’s pretty cool! :)

- heather on

how exciting! i wonder what month she is due.

- MB on

I kinda had a feeling they might be already when he kept making comments that they were trying. Congrats to them!

- michelle on

Congrats to them!!!! it’s sooo exiting! I hope they have a girl and a boy!

- Sarah on

now i’m going to be honest and say that although i’ve never been pregnant, something abt this seems REALLY skeptical… first of all doesn’t it take betwee 3-4 months to find out there are more than one baby in utero… JUST last week he was saying that they were trying to get pregnant, and THIS week not only are they pregnant, but their pregnant w/ twins…

again, i’m not pregnant, and i’m not a ob/gyn… but u can find out ur pregnant at 4-6 weeks of pregnancy right? women who are actively trying are also checking every four to 6 weeks right? u can’t tell till you’re 12-16 weeks if ur having twins… so either he’s KNOWN they were pregnant for several weeks and just did the wait till the second trimester thing (which makes a lot of sense) or something something just ain’t right (c) keith sweat…

BUT i said all of that just to say… congratulations… lol

- fay on

It seems like the proportion of Hollywood celebs having twins is a lot higher than that of the normal population…

- jo.ann on

Congrats to them. Wonder how they are going to deal with it on ugly betty

- Cassie on

Double Congratulations.

The twin thing isn’t confined to Hollywood – in the last six months I’ve had 4 friends all give birth to twins.

- Kim on

I just wanted to comment on everyone saying “twins are everywhere”…

I found out I was pregnant with twins, due this winter – I have had 3 single children. My 3rd started as twins too…

We found out last appt. that we only have one now. Doing research I found out that 1 in 8 pregnancies starts as identical twins. Whereas there’s only 1 in 70 pregnancies that actually produces identical twins to term.

Not sure what the stats are for fraternal twins. Maybe they’re having fraternal. I think fraternal have a better chance of going to term since they each have their own placenta, etc…

I just thought I’d say that there’s a lot of pregnancies that start as twins. Since ultrasound is so easily used now there’s lots of people finding out early that they have twins, only to find out that they end up losing one…or both…

Maybe she’s announcing it a bit too early? Just me though…I was due this winter also…

At any rate…good luck to them for a healthy pregnancy and birth…

- SH on

We’re seeing more twins becasue we are seeing more and more older moms.

About half the women I know who got pregnant for the first time over the age of 35 have had twins. And only one of those pregnancies were related to fertility treatments. BUT, that was my sister-in-law and she had triplets – a girl and identical boys. Which doesn’t count because fertility treatments don’t cause identicals – nature does.

It’s an interesteding trend though. BUT…who cares how they got pregnanct. Congrats to them!

- Michelle on

P.S. – I wasn’t implying they used fertility treatments. Wouldn’t matter (and none of our business) if they did.

- Michelle on

Fay –

Twins are visible on ultrasound as soon as one is visible on ultrasound. At any rate – WAY before 12-16 weeks…I found out I was pregnant with healthy identical twins at 6 weeks…both had beating hearts and measured the same…then at 10 weeks we found out we only had one. The other had stopped developing at some point. My OB/GYN told me that I’ll probably have a healthy singleton with no effects from the other twin. She also told me that it isn’t uncommon to lose one…That it can even happen when they’re 3-5 lbs…far along. That’s when the other one has a bigger chance of being greatly affected if you lose one that far along.

I was also due this winter. I think Rebecca and Jerry can do what they want, but from personal experience I think they’re counting their chickens before they hatch and are announcing it too early.

- SH on

WOW!!! I nearly choked on my Cheerios when that popped up my on my screen! That news is a shocker considering that he just said that they are trying. Congrats to them! I think that they will make a great, fun, cool parenting team.

- kelly on

Well I know a barrage of posts about them using clomid/fertility treatments are gonna follow.

@michelle: who says fertility treatments cant make identical twins? For example, the olsens are fraternal(2 eggs) but they look identical.

- indie on

Aww, this made me smile! They’re going to be great parents. They seem like such a happy and down-to-earth couple. Congratulations Rebecca and Jerry!

- carolina on

He must have just said that last week to be funny knowing people were going to find out soon that they are expecting. Congratulations to them. It really surprises me that they are having twins. I just didn’t picture that but that’s great.

- Marilyn on

Wow So happy for them! Congrats!

I wasn’t expecting this at all.
I knew that they so badly wanted kids. That is super, twins!!

- Stéph on

congratulation to a happy parents! Wish Rebecca great healthy and easy pregnancy!

- Alana on

Wow! What is in the water celebs are drinking?! Everyone is having twins! Congrats to them! They seem like they would be such great parent! Always laughing, having fun and seem like they just adore each other!

- Becky on

More Hollywood twins, good grief what a twin-boom! Congrats to Rebecca and Jerry

- Chloe on

“I was also due this winter. I think Rebecca and Jerry can do what they want, but from personal experience I think they’re counting their chickens before they hatch and are announcing it too early.
Posted by: SH at Jul 28, “

“Winter” is kind of vague though (as stars often are about their due dates). She may actually be due in December and out of her first trimester. Time will tell.

They seem like a fun couple and I hope things go well for them and the pregnancy.

- emmalee on

“Wow…If they’re expecting twins, somehow I REALLY think they’ll be taking back that comment about their dogs preparing them for children…”

…Sara, that was just what I was thinking!

It seems like I’m seeing more twins in Hollywood and in the real world lately. I guess its just a result of people waiting longer to have kids and using fertility treatments (I’m not saying thats the case with RR and JOC- i obviously have no idea)
…but doesn’t it seem like everyone’s having twins??

Congrats to the happy couple!

- *Lulu* on

Emalee- You are right, “Winter” IS vague, but you have to be vague with twins because it’s common for them to come 4-6 weeks early – which could be anywhere from dec. to feb. – around when i was due with twins. I was in my 11th week when I found out we had only 1. Again, they can do what they want. Just saying my personal experience.

- SH on

I think the odd thing now is to have a single baby. Twins are becoming the usual thing to get now when you get pregnant.

Congrats to both!

- Bugs on

Actually I’m due in Feb., towards the end of winter, and I’m 12 weeks. So, I don’t think that’s too early to announce, seeing as the risk of miscarriage decreases dramatically after 12/13 weeks.

- MB on

That little sneak, Jerry! He knew all along they were preggers! :)

I am SO HAPPY for them and their new bundles of joys due in the winter. Awesome news. I was hoping I would see a baby announcement in the coming months.

Good for them!

- Stephany on

Well, The post changed, and I guess if they know that they’re girls now then they’re at least at 20 weeks – “winter” seems a bit late. If they were 20 weeks now then 40 weeks would put them at the very beginning of December. They would probably come in November which I wouldn’t consider winter…
Maybe hollywood people consider November to be winter…

- SH on

Congratulations to them!! I know they’ll be awesome parents, and their children are gonna be very good lookin’ kids :)

I’m thinking 2 girls… haha :)

- Jacky on

Well i take back my comment on them having a boy and girl twin but thats great they are having twin daughters.. it seems like everyone is having girls these days but im happy camila alves had a boy to stop the streak of celeb girl babies!! I wonder when gwen is gonna have her baby.. i cant wait to hear his or her name and im gonna make a guess its a girl but ill probobly be wrong AGAIN

- Lisa on

I doubt she is 20 weeks, she probably either had CVS or an amnio done, she’s 35 after all. They can tell you the gene makeup there so you can find out quite early since you don’t have to wait and peek around on an ultrasound.

- Erica on

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

OMG!!

I luv Rebecca Romijn and I am thrilled that she is with a great man that she wanted to start a family with.

Congrats R & J!!!

- sinclair on

Wow Twin Girls!
So happy for them!
Congrats!

Aw Jerry, he knew all along that they were expecting and made that comment about dogs prepariung for kids.
They’re gonna be great parents!

- Stéph on

Wow! Congrats to them! It does seem like Hollywood is having a special on twins lately! As a momma to twins… I say Good Luck! They are A LOT of work!!! :)

- Amber on

I bet they already knew they were pregnant but said they were trying to keep people from asking them about it. Do people really want to ask, “Hey, how’s that trying going? Been successful yet?” Maybe it’s easier to keep people at bay that way instead of staying mum about it.

- AllAngela on

Is there something in the Starbucks out there or what?? Congratulations to them. That’s great news!

- Carol on

Whoa it is twin girls how exiting!!!!!

- Sarah2 on

Oh, congrats to them! How exciting!! Twin girls! Jerry is going to be outnumbered, LOL!

Based on Rebecca’s age (35), if they had done CVS (chorionic villus sampling) instead of an amniocentisis to screen for genetic defects, they’d know the gender of their twins. CVS can be done as early as 10 or 12 weeks. Like an amnio, the tissue sample is used to study the DNA, chromosomes, and enzymes of the baby or babies, and so the gender is 100% accurate.

Some people prefer the CVS over the amnio because it can be done much earlier, which can give the couple more time to prepare for a special needs child or terminate their pregnancy, if they choose.

- Christina on

Wow. What a surprise…and twins at that! Anyway, I am very happy for them. Congrats!

- CTBmom on

Good for them. Just don’t go drinking the celebrity/Hollywood water. LOL

- Alison on

Oh my Hollywood’s gene pool is getting ridiculously large and increasingly beautiful! Twin girls?! With a mother and father who look like THAT?! Watch out! LOL With Knox Jolie-Pitt, Levi McConaughey and company as the resident heartbreakers surrounded by these gorgeous, gorgeous little girls born in the past year or two Hollywood is going to be quite the sight in 20 years!

Congrats to Jerry and Rebecca! They’re such a fun couple and I wish them all the best and the smoothest pregnancy and dilvery possible!

- Grayson's Girl on

Like someone else said, twins are visible as soon as one is visible! She has to be at least 16 weeks because they know they are having girls. They probably just werent ready to announce it to the world yet.

Anyways Congrats to them!

- Brittany on

Brittany, actually with CVS you find out earlier. Julia Roberts found out that Hazel and Finn were what they were at 9 weeks.

- Erica on

Yay! I’m so happy for them. Congratulations Rebecca and Jerry!

- Lisa on

Congratulations to Jerry and Rebecca. They’ve always seemed like a nice couple.

- Paige on

I love both of Jerry and Rebecca. I am so glad that their dream of becoming parents is happening already! Twin girls! If they look like their momma, Jerry better buy a shotgun lol!

- trl on

LOL ah that Jerry threw me for a loop when he did interviews saying they were trying, smart move on his part. Congrats to Jerry & Rebecca those girls are will be adorable!

- Natalie S. on

Obviously when he said they were trying they already knew they were pregnant. I am sure she is past the 3 month mark that people normally wait to tell the whole world she may even be further along then that. To me winter means as early as December so its late July now so she could be 3-4 months along.

- JC on

Have there really been a lot of twin births recently? Because I can’t remember there being any more than usual. Congrats to the couple!

- phoebe on

Ok, just a thought but, who says they didn’t know they were already pregnant and just kept saying they were actively trying in order to keep people at bay a while longer? It’s what I’d do if I were a Celeb.

Either way, Congrats to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Harley on

I want twins!!! Congrats :)

- brannon on

Oh I knew something was up with Jerry’s comments. All of a sudden he’s like “we really want kids…we’re really trying…we really want kids” then bam this announcement. Like other people posted in here I do wonder if the reason they kept saying that was to throw people off balance. I mean if someone told me they were trying (aka having a heck of a lot of sex) to get pregnant, I’m not gonna bug them and ask if they’ve conceived yet. That’s rude, so maybe they knew people wouldn’t be bugging them about “when you getting pregnant” if they just came right out and said they were trying.

I also agree with the posters who commented on there has to be something in the L.A. water what with all the twins. I found it interesting how they came right out and said they did not do IVF or take fertility drugs. Could that have been in response to the rumours about Angelina doing the IVF thing?

Congratulations to Jerry and Rebecca! They’re so gorgeous the babies are bound to be just as gorgeous. Good luck to them both and hope the pregnancy goes well!

- DLR on

Love this couple! They seems like they are so much fun and I’m so excited for their baby girls!! Congratulations to them!

- Emaline on

Congrats to them but I wonder how John Stamos feels about this? I mean it was said the reason their marriage busted up was because he wanted kids and she didn’t and now she’s remarried and have 2 babies. Poor Uncle Jesse!

- Vivian on

okie so if they already know they are expecting girls that means she’s ATLEAST 4 months along?

Congrats to them…I wasn’t expecting that at all!

- ERICKA on

I wonder if carrying the twins will affect her Scoliosis in and way?

I have scoliosis and personally i get a lot of pain so i can imagine the pain that she will go through carrying twins!

congratulations to the couple! i hope everything goes well!

- Tigerlily on

It is wonderful that they are pregnant and with twins, no less. However the need for the close source to emphasize that the they got pregnant without IVF or Clomid is really unnecessary. Why should it matter? I personally thank my lucky stars everyday that medical technology exists to assist those of us who need it especially since many of us have put off having kids until our mid-late 30′s. Without Clomid my beautiful 9 month old daughter wouldn’t be here. Anyway – cheers to more gorgeous celebrity babies!

- Heather on

i had a cvs at 11 weeks, knew right away, that the baby was ok and the baby was a girl.

- monika on

Ya know, I scoffed at all of the remarks about “something being in the water” with Hollywood and twins. Then it occured to me, I was living in SoCal when I conceived my twins! It’s a conspiracy! Just kiddig.
I don’t know why this made me smile so much, but it did. I love Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca. Congrats!

- TwinMamma on

Wow! That’s totally surprising. Maybe he already knew and was just keeping a secret when he talked earlier about them trying? who cares!! congratulations! And as for Winter, I live on the West Coast. Back home, in OH, it would still be warm thru October. I never would have considered November as “Winter.” But on the West Coast, it has considerably cooled down by October, and by early November, the mountain ranges of California, Oregon and Washington are already blanketed in feet of snow. One Thanksgiving, we had 3 feet of snow. Many ski resorts also have opening day in Nov. So yeah, out here, November is definitely “mentally” part of the Winter season.

- carie on

oh yay! that is great news!

- Jasmine C. on

goodness, when i was younger i used to want to be a twin or have twin children. now i have to figure out how to avoid that! :P

- Ashley on

I don’t know, let’s do the math here. If she got pregnant in March, she’d be due mid-to-late December (very beginning of winter) and she’d be about 19 weeks along, which may be the time when they felt comfortable disclosing that they were expecting. Makes sense to me! Of course, as others have said, she may go early since she’s expecting twins.

How exciting for them! :)

- Heather on

I am an identical twin and the neighborhood where I grew up had 3 other sets of identical twins. People used to comment that there must have been something in the water. Even if that is possible, and it isn’t, it wouldn’t have applied because all of us 4 sets of twins moved into the neighborhood as small children.

- Alice on

“Congrats to them! I can’t help but to wonder about all these celebrities having twins however. What gives?
Posted by: Sharon at Jul 28, 2008 9:47:04 AM”

IVF is what gives. I bet you anything! I know they say they didn’t, but I am suspicious. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Congrats to them, they seem like a very cool, lovely and down to earth couple!

- bethany on

Congrats to them!! Those will be beautiful babies!!

- Sheila on

I don’t get why people care if they had IVF or not. It’s not any of our business if they did or didn’t. Congrats to Rebecca and Jerry and I hope they have a healthy pregnancy and healthy babies.

- Renee on

Heather, I’m sure they’re not 19 weeks along – she’d DEFINITELY be showing being pregnant with twins. He couldn’t be saying last week that they’re trying and her be 19 weeks along…

I bet winter means next jan, feb…hopefully they’re at least past the 12 week mark if they’re telling the world because multiple pregnancy is higher risk. They probably had the CVS that everyone is talking about to find out the sex early.

- SH on

i dont understand her im sorry truly dont take this the wrong way everybody im super duper happyfor them and how exciting twin and girls at that i love baby girls anyways wat i was saying didnt she divorce john satmos cuz the fact she didnt want kids and he did wow

- naomi on

Well, twins are more common when a woman is older, and it seems that more women are waiting to have children. Congrats to them. Twin girls! That’s is so sweet.

- terri on

Wow. I wasn’t expecting news this fast! Good luck to them, and wow, twins! All these twins lately. It’s some sort of twins pandemonium…lmao.

I guess all that trying paid off for them–twice over! :)

- FC on

LOL – yeah, pets really prepare you for that.

Now, I did notice they specifically said without IVF or Clomid, not IVF or any fertility drugs. There are a lot of other fertility drugs out there that are not clomid and don’t require IVF – Humagon, Gonal-F, Follistim, Pergonal, etc. etc . . .

You can also find out through genetic screening in the first trimester gender of the baby(ies) (CVS, Amnio – but those take weeks to get results back). Interestingly enough – if you did preimplantation gender determination (which they do with IVF) before you would know even even before you got the positive hpt back . . .

I’m not saying they did or they didn’t and we don’t know for sure how far along she is anyway. There are a LOT of twins in hollywood and it can’t all just be attributed to just advance maternal age.

- JuliaS on

I was in Hollywood last year on a holiday and I got to meet Rebecca (in passing on the street) and she is just THE nicest person I think I’ve ever met and I’m really happy for them.

I agree about Jerry though; keeping the world in the dark when he knew all along!

- christinajo on

Congratulations to them both. Two girls, just wonderful!

Just a side note… Its sad these days that celebrities have to announce whether they used fertility treatments or not.

I completely understand that some choose to let the fans in on their fertility troubles or their natural conception.

But in the times we live in, a lot of people don’t believe twins can be naturally conceived any more.

It shouldn’t be anyone’s business how they did it, unless they want to announce it.

- Amanda on

awesome! congrats! =]

- jasmine on

i also remember she and john stamos breaking up over her not wanting to have children supposedly, but then i saw on that denise richards show that he didn’t want to date her because she had kids? who knows.

congrats to them, they will make gorgeous girls!

- grace on

SH- I definitely agreed she’d be showing by now if she is 19 weeks. Have we seen any recent pics of her? I scoured the internet and couldn’t find any, because I was wanting to see if she had a bump or not, LOL! So, my theory could definitely be shot if she isn’t showing yet.

Can anyone point us to some recent photos? :)

- Heather on

Congratulations to them twins!
Those babies are going to be gorgeous!

- monica on

Hmmmm, I got pregnant without IVF or Clomid too. It was Follistim, Lupron, and Ovidrel. So really, the absence of IVF and Clomid doesn’t mean fertilty wasn’t an issue.

And what was his point last week in commenting more than once about how they wanted to get pregnant, about how they were trying “really hard”, if she was already far along enough to know the sexes?

- Kate on

Call me crazy, but I believe them when they say they didn’t have fertility treatments. Being the babies are both girls, it is very possible that they are identical. Identicals are simply a matter of chance, and they don’t “run in families”. Having identical twins is simply “the luck of the draw” so to speak.

While I am very anxious to see what Brad and Angie’s first (and very possibly only) biological son looks like, I almost wish that they would have had twin girls like the media had been reporting. If they did, there would be a chance that they were identical, and hopefully people wouldn’t have been screaming “IVF!” or “fertilty treatments!” (as it is, people seem to forget that there’s almost no way Angie would have had time for fertility treatments, assuming she and Brad were giving Pax time to adjust before trying, and assuming they weren’t trying while she was in the middle of filming her movies).

Hopefully for Jerry and Rebecca, there will be fewer skeptics!

- CelebBabyLover on

Hmmmm, I just don’t buy it. I’m not sure why I don’t buy it but I think some fertility drug was used. Like others have said, something is off. It doesn’t matter, congrats are in order….best of luck to them.

- Nina on

I’m still super confused about this! haha. one day Jerry O’Connell is saying they are “TRYING” to have a baby, a week later they are full-on expecting twin girls???? WEIRD!!! I wonder if the gender thing is a POSITIVE or if it’s just speculation since it seems to be super soon into the pregnancy.

- Rye on

Congrats to Rebecca and Jerry!!!

- annie on

AWWW….I can’t believe that the pudgy little guy from one of my all time favorite movies is gonna be a daddy! Wow I feel old.:( Congrats to them!

It’s not fair to attribute what a no name source said as words from jerry & Rebecca’s mouth. I see that happening more & more w/ celeb news articles.

So far Jerry & Rebecca haven’t said a word on how she got pregnant..

- SeanJay on

Well, they said Angelina Jolie was going to have twin girls and look what happened!

- nosoupforyou on

I agree that it is no one’s business how these two got pg. As someone who achieved one of my pregnancies after using Repronex, I get so tired of people asking if we used: “IVF, the fertile pill, that fertility s**t, etc.” I believe God is going to give you the children you’re meant to have no matter how they join your family. That being said, there are a lot of ways to achieve a pregnancy without using IVF or Clomid. Also, we found out the sexes of our four at 12 weeks following a level 2 ultrasound. For those out there who think that identicals can only be achieved “naturally”, there is a procedure called ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) that is commonly used with IVF. It is used to increase the chances of the egg fertilizing and, by tampering with the egg shell, it does lead to an increase in identicals. Many people who have high order multiples have a set of identicals as a result of using this procedure.

I think it’s pretty clear now that Jerry was having a little fun with the press last week, dangling the idea that they *might get pregnant* when he already knew that they had twins on the way. In this link http://backseatcuddler.com/2008/07/27/rebecca-romijn-is-knocked-up/
she’s definitely sporting a bump under her belt.

This might already have been commented on, and I would love to sit and read all the comments here, but don’t have the time. Has anyone given thought to the fact that the article doesn’t say ANywhere that she is PREGNANT, just that they are expecting twins? maybe they are adopting or using a surrogate? And WHY does it matter HOW they are having babies, whether its thru use of meds or another person, who cares? As long as they are happy thats all I would think would matter! :)

- Snow on

Who are these people??
I’m from UK wouldnt recognise them if they lived next door!

Hmm, I’m not sure why I’m responding given that you say you don’t read others’ comments ;-) but there’s nothing to indicate that they’re using a surrogate or adopting. Rebecca appears to be showing in new pictures and the absence of the word “pregnant” in the press release doesn’t mean they’re not.

There’s a new article on People.com. Rebecca’s costars sure seem to think she’s expecting: Vanessa Williams has even started shopping. “I’ve already gotten them organic cotton baby clothes from Green Babies to start them off right,” Williams, 45, told PEOPLE. “Rebecca is glowing, and Jerry will make a really fun daddy.”

That’s how I feel when it’s an announcement of some UK TV presenter or football or cricket player ;-)

Anyway, they’re both actors: Ugly Betty, Jerry McGuire, X-Men, Stand By Me and a whole bunch of other shows and movies.

- emmalee on

she could have found out pretty early if they were girls if she had CVS testing done. she doesn’t have to be THAT far along.

i want to know when someone famous is going to have triplets!

- pam on

Wonder if this means she’s not in the Magneto movie now???

Would be kewl if she named one of the girls Raven (after Raven Darkholm). :D

- Caren on

JuliaS- I totally thought the same thing when I saw that they said they didn’t use IVF or Clomid. Heck, neither did I… but I did use Letrozole. Of course, I didn’t have twins so no one was asking me questions.

And quadmomplus2, that is so interesting about ICSI and identical twins. I never knew that before. I love learning new things.

It kind of cracks me up that Jerry was making all those comments about trying for babies when she was pregnant this whole time! It sounds like he was bursting at the seams with the good news and dying to say something about it!

I don’t blame them for waiting, though. She probably just had her “big” ultrasound. I “announced” my pregnancy (besides to our immediate family) late July of last year after my “big” ultrasound showed everything was on track OK, and I was due Dec. 23 (definately winter).

- Sami on

It seems really rather presumptuous of the unnamed “source” to announce to all of us via People magazine, that they didn’t do IVF or use Clomid, when neither Jerry nor Rebecca felt they needed to make a statement to that effect.

- Christina on

yes, i agree with christina above…

not that this whole fertility drug thing matters…i don’t really care either way.

but why would they say “they didn’t use IVF or clomid”? why would they point out only those TWO methods for infertility?

why wouldn’t they just say (if they were in fact conceived naturally) that they “didn’t use any fertility method/drugs; they were conceived naturally”

sounds fishy to me. i bet they used some type of fertility intervention, especially since they’re going to lengths to know what they’re having so early, etc. seems like they’re having a lot of medical intervention early…

again, not that i care or that it matters…just doesn’t add up like other people have been saying…

- SH on

I dont understand why he said they were trying to get pregnant if she was already pregnant.Am I the only one who feel that way?It seems to me they already knew, but just wanted to make some publity of it.seems like she’s kind of a little far, since they already know the sexes.

- chrisma on

carisma-
the only thing i can think of to that question is that maybe they were waiting until they knew the sexes of the babies so they could announce they were pregnant AND announce the sexes? it doesn’t make sense to me to just say “well, they weren’t ready to annouce it” because it was just last week that they said they were trying. why would they be not ready one week, then at the beginning of the next week they go from “trying” to all of a sudden ready to announce. i think maybe they wanted to announce the pregnancy and the sexes together? only thing i can think of that makes sense. or maybe their tests showed that they were definitely healthy/viable and they felt safe to announce?

- SH on

Wow, thats great but didnt she and John Stamos break up because she wanted to focus on her career instead of having kids?

- Daniella on

Congratulations to them, although I don’t believe for a second that all these twins in Hollywood are naturally conceived. Like real life, maybe 5% are natural and the rest are intervention. I have no problem with people getting intervention, alot of my dear friends have and do have twins, but they don’t lie about it and openly deny it. I have identical twins, and I think it’s crazy that you NEVER see identical twins in Hollywood, it’s always fraternal it seems which so happens to be the one increased with fertility treatments. It doesn’t really matter HOW a kid is conceived but I hate the lies.

- Kate on

Very true, how many twins did you see from Hollywood couples, 20,30,40 years ago? It was extremely rare. Now today an absurd amount of Hollywood couples are having twins and claiming ‘it just happened’. Who cares how the buggers were conceived, but it is questionable.

- Jamie on

Daniella- I think so….But that was then. As far as I know, the break-up happened a few years ago. In those few years, Rebecca most likely has focused on her career. Now that she’s done that, she probably feels she’s ready for kids. She never said she wanted to focus on her career forever, just AT THAT TIME (very similar to how Angelina Jolie famously said not that long after adopting Maddox that “Right now, I feel that if I had biological kids, that would be one less kid I could save from an orphange,” or something alonge those lines, and people twisted her words and insisted she said she NEVER wanted bio kids)!

Kate and Jaime- I get what you’re saying, but I also want to point out that these days, a lot of women, both celebs and non-celebs, are waiting until they are in their mid to late thirties, forties, or even fifties before starting families. Women over 35 have an increased chance of having fraternal twins naturally (it has to do with the fact that, as women get closer to menopause, they release more of a type of hormone that stimulates egg production).

Most of the women in Hollywood that have had twins recently are over 35 (J-Lo, Marcia Cross, Geena Davis, Nancy Grace, etc.). Therefore, the fact that women are having babies at later ages could be another reason for the increase in twins.

As for lying about fertility treatments…I actually haven’t heard too many celebs doing that. Of those who haven’t confirmed using fetility treatments, most of them have simply chosen not to discuss it either way (Julia Roberts and Nancy Grace are two examples). That’s not lying, that’s just chosing to keeping personal information (and, let’s face it, since asking whether or not someone used fertility treatments is basically asking about their sex life, it is an EXTREMELY personal topic!) to themselves!

The only celeb I can think of who has flat-out denied using fertility treatments is J-Lo, and I honestly think she’s telling the truth. She’s over 35 AND twins run in her family (yes, they apparently run on her dad’s side, but men can actually pass the gene for hyperovulation on to their daughters. The thing about twins not being passed down by the father’s side refers to the fact that a husband cannot increase his wife’s chances of twins even if he has twins in his family.), so it’s very possible she did concieve naturally.

And for the record, there ARE identical twins in Hollywood. D’Lila and Jesse Combs (Sean “Diddy” Combs’ daughters) are an example of a pair of identicals.

- CelebBabyLover on

Congradulation!!!! Jerry and Rebecca.
Does it really matter how or when they got preg. as long as they have health babies or baby, that is all that matters. So lets just back off and let them be happy.

- Klee on

Kate, thats not really true. In 1971 (7 years before the first successful IVF) the twin rate was 1 in 60 births in the USA, today it is 1 in 30. That would mean that the rate of twins who are not concieved after fertility treatment is about 50%, not 5%. Also, women over 35 have a 1 in 27 chance to concieve twins. I think people tend to forget that twins have been concieved since the dawn of humanity, way before fertility treatment (the highest rate of twins is actually born in Nigeria, where fertility treatment ist scarce).

Off course, the chance of having identical twins ist still about 1 in 285, but the majority of naturaly concieved twins are and have always been fraternal.

Besides, I don’t think it is really fair to accuse everyone with fraternal twins of lying about fertility treatment, after all recent studies from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) show that the majority of children (57%) born as a result of fertility treatments are singeltons.

Just some statistics to show you, that there is actually no need to assume that Rebecca and Jerry are lying about fertility treatment, they just got lucky and I wish them all the best.

- MiB on

What ever is in the water in Holywood they need to bottle it up, so I can purchase some. It is wonderful news and I know their babies will be gorgeous!

- Jaye on

Wow! Quite a debate here! Honestly it doesn’t really matter, conceiving however it is done is a private matter. I do understand why people are questioning how she conceived. It seems odd for them to come out with such carefully worded statements about it. Why say anything, let people think what they want. You and the people that matter know the truth.

I wish them the best.

- sarah on

I’m sorry if I sound like a doubter but I just don’t believe them. I have read all the stats about twins and multiples but I don’t think for a sec she conceived naturally. It’s simply happening to much and if you are a celeb, you have access to the best of everything. You are used to having and getting what you want, you have the money to afford treatments, why wouldn’t you have them? I’m sure Jlo , angie and many others had some kind of fertility help, let’s be real! There is nothing wrong with having help if you need help but they should stop the lying. Remember folks these are many of the same people that deny plastic surgeries, why are you surprised they would lie about fertility treatments. Babies are a blessing no matter how they come into the world.

- Amberlee on

MIB- I couldn’t have said it better myself! I also want to point out something else I think everyone tends to forget: We also hear A LOT more about what celebs are doing (adopting, having babies, breaking up, getting married, etc.) than we used to.

Before computers, celebrity magazines, etc., celebs were still doing all those things I mentioned. We simply didn’t hear about it nearly as much as we do now. Heck, even 5 years ago the media wasn’t quite what it is now!

Yes, some celebs who have had twins have obviously had fertility treatments (in fact, some, like Marica Cross and, I think, Geena Davis, have even talked openly about that fact). However, there are more than likely some celebs that have concieved twins naturally. As MIB pointed out, the rate of twins concieved naturally versus with fertility is actually about 50/50. That means about half of all twins are concieved without fertilty treatments, and half are concieved without them.

Why is it so hard to believe that Angie (who, when you think about it, wouldn’t have even had time for fertility treatments, given her busy schedule and the fact that it’s extremely doubtful that she and Brad were trying to concieve that soon after Pax’s adoption or while she was filming one of the movies she filmed last year), J-Lo, and Rebecca could be in that 50 percent who concieved twins naturally (especially Rebcca, considering her twins could definitely be identical)? Also, why does everyone assume Rebecca’s twins are fraternal (J-Lo’s and Angie’s obviously are, since they are boy-girl pairs!)?

As for Angie, I want to ask…Doesn’t it seem a lot more likely that she’d have turned to adoption if she couldn’t concieve naturally (and before anyone starts, I really can’t see Brad being against that)?

- CelebBabyFan on

CelebBabyFan -
Do you KNOW Angelina and Brad? How do you know they weren’t trying to conceive? Shiloh is over 2. Maybe they WANTED a natural sibling close in age to her. I have 4 kids, they’re all around 18 months apart. I did it on purpose. I wanted my kids close together. Some people think that’s an accident, but it wasn’t. We like it that the kids can all grow up together.

I don’t think Angie had fertility treatments, I have the feeling they were just trying for another one for Shiloh and happened to get two. I also think they wouldn’t have used fertility treatments because the “urgency” wasn’t there like it seems to have been with Rebecca and Jerry.

BUT – The thing is, you say she “wouldn’t have time for fertility treatments” but when you have more money than God and as many nannies as you want at your disposal, and houses everywhere that you could live, AND you can trot off to a movie set for months on end with no problems, then you’d PROBABLY be able to find time for fertility treatments. I’m sure they’re not THAT time consuming. It’s not like you have to go live at a Dr’s office for 2 months or something. It probably just entales having appointments with a Dr. and following a schedule according to your cycles.

I also have read somewhere that Angelina wants a partner for each kid that “looks like them”. Maddox has Pax, Shiloh will have these twins, and I have read that she’ll probably adopt again for Zahara so she can have her “partner” in the family – someone who looks like her.

- SH on

I have to agree with SH- you can’t say Angie wouldn’t have time for fertility treatments- that doesn’t make sense. She doesn’t have a 9-5 job like the average Joe. Yes, she makes movies but she has tons of money at her disposal so anything is possible. Hell, she could have a fertility Dr visit her on set anywhere in the world! (Remember she flew her OBGYN half way around the world when she gave birth) Hello…we’re not talking about you or me, almost anything is possible when you have the money of celebs. I personally think it’s very possible she could have gotten treatments, I don’t think IVF but I do think clomid or some other fertility drug. She was very very thin around the time she got pregnant. It makes me wonder if she could have gotten pregnant on her own.

It doesn’t matter how the babies came to be but I think celebs do so much we can’t even fathom because it’s just not possible for us.

- Amber on

Amber- You made some very good points. I guess I was thinking of IVF, which, from what I’ve heard, is very invasive and can be hard on a woman’s body.

That said, Angelina filmed about three movies last year. Most, if not all three, of them were very physically demanding movies (Wanted and Changeling both were for sure, from what I’ve heard). That’s why I doubt Angie would have been trying to get pregnant while she was filming a movie. I doubt she’d want to get/be pregnant during a physically demanding movie.

As for her size…Keep in mind that Nicole Richie was also very thin when she got pregnant with Harlow and, from the sounds of it, Harlow was concieved naturally (Nicole has mentioned that she was very surprised to learn that she was pregnant, and she didn’t even totally believe it until she first heard Harlow’s heartbeat).

Also, from what I’ve heard, a woman’s periods usually don’t stop until she’s somwhere between 80 and 95 pounds (I can’t remember the exact weight). Granted, I’m not very good at judging weight, but I doubt that Angie was ever under 100 pounds. And keep in mind that Angie is actually naturally thin. She may actually have not lost as much weight as everyone thought.

Finally, a fact that everyone seems to forget: A few months ago, Angie said in an interview that she and Brad were taken by surprise when they discovered they would be having twins (and Angie is known for being extremely candid and open in her interviews, so I believe her). I doubt that would have been the case if she’d had fertility treatments, as virtually all of them greatly increase the chances of having multiples (the only I can think of that doesn’t is IUI-Inuterine insemination, when used alone without fertility drugs).

- CelebBabyLover on

Twins run in many of the actors families so I’m not surprised that so many couples are having twins these days. Congratulations to them! Sleep while you can guys for you will not be doing it again for at least one year!! Good luck!!

A lot of the women(at least 6 that are known of) at my church are pregnant with twins right now. There is probably something in the water

- Kelly on

People seemed shocked about the twin epidemic but brad pitt has twins in his family and so does jerry o’connell…he has a twin brother!

- Kira on

MIB and celeblover
You both sound very educated about twins and provide very useful information. I by no means think that all fraternal twins are from fertility treatments. There have been fraternal twins since the beginning of time! I do think in Hollywood there is a lot of deception going on (I used to live in LA and was an extra in movies about 7 years ago) and many stars, but by no means ALL, have an image to live up to and it is in their benefit to deny plastic surgery, fertility treatments, etc. There is definitely more of a propensity for having twins over the age of 35, and that accounts for some of these twins births I’m sure, but I still believe the majority are the result of medical intervention. Which is fine but keep your mouth shut like Julia Roberts and keep it private (which I agree it should be) than saying it came from you husband’s brother’s cousin. There are just WAY too many twins than are realistically conceived naturally, almost like a competition.

And you’re right, Sean Combs and I think the guy from everybody loves Raymond have identicals, but I think that is it from Hollywood which is comparable with the natural identical twinning rates.

- Kate on

Women who consume animal products, especially dairy, are five times as likely to have twins than vegan women – women who consume no animal products at all. So its not in the water, but in the MILK!!!!!

Preselected gender determination for IVF!!!!! What???? That is terrible! There seems something horribly morally wrong about being able to terminate a baby becauase it’s not the gender you want. I wanted a girl and I got a girl, but if I had a boy I would have been happy with it…..

And I can’t believe people do a lot of aminos. there is a 25% risk of death of the babies when you use that method. It’s a risk I didn’t think most women would take.

I hate saying this, but will all the gender selections and such it’s like children have turned into commodities and not gifts from god……

Dairy is this country is injected with rBGH, with has high amounts of estrogen. That is also why little girls are going through puberty sooner….. It’s not wonder that all the other industrial countries have banned rBGH. It’s also no wonder that the man who runs monsanto that produces rBGH also sits on the board of the FDA….

Drink milk that doesn’t have the rBGH. Or at least don’t let your children drink milk that has hormones in it!!!!
