Mary Lynn Rajskub Welcomes Valentine Anthony

24 star and comedianMary Lynn Rajskub and her boyfriend Matthew Rolph, 28, have welcomed their first child. Son Valentine Anthony Rolph arrived on Thursday, July 24th, weighing in at 9 lbs, 5 oz. Born almost two full weeks after the due date, Mary Lynn says waiting for her baby boy "was like an episode of 24 with the clock ticking."

Mary Lynn, 37, announced the pregnancy in January, saying that the first trimester "felt like a really bad hangover." In April, she said she and Matthew felt the baby’s sex was one of the "great mysteries of life," so they were keeping it a delivery surprise. Last month, she celebrated her baby shower.

I love the name. Its pronounced “Vah-len-teen”, not Valentine as in Valentine’s day. I’m Romanian so I like it, Valentin is a very very common name in Romania and no its not feminine, Valentina is feminine.

Again with criticizing the name that the parents picked out. How insulting is that “hope they call him by his middle name’? Would you appreciate someone saying that to you? I doubt it. Anyhow, Congrats to the family and love the name.

For all the negative comments about the name, it doesn’t really matter what the birth name is, he will probably go by something else. At least that is how it is in my family.

I have an uncle named Ralph, but he goes by Joe. A cousin named Meredith, but she goes by Missy; and an Aunt named Catherine, but she goes by Cookie. And my Italian great granfather was named Achilles, but was known as Rocky. I don’t know how those nicknames came about since they are not close to the given names, but everyone finds a way eventually.

And if that isn’t enough . . . at least the baby isn’t named “Peanut.”

If it’s pronounced Vah-len-teen, I LOVE the name. I do agree it’s very feminine. For a second, I thought they had a baby girl. :/

But, it’s a very modern yet old-fashioned name. Did we really expect a Peter or a John? Off-the-wall names are fun!

My husband is French/Dutch & his name is Valentin. The french prononciation is beautiful. Not sure about the e at the end for a boy though…maybe that’s the English way of spelling it for a boy.
A lot of people call him Val or V & he’s always LOVED his name because if someone says do you know Valentin? they know exactly who they are talking about, not a very popular name in Montreal, Canada…where we live.

Congrats to Matthew and Mary Lynn (I loved her on 24!). As for the name, I would have preferred Valentin for a boy and Valentine for a girl, but hey, it’s none of my business how they named their kids. I knew a Valentin myself and he goes by Vali, which I thought was really cute.

Ah, I love when childless women comment about what they would or wouldn’t do or feel when they become parents. Trust me, Natasha, when you pick a name and love it and then people give you grief about it, it does ruin the fun for you. That’s why a lot of people won’t announce their baby’s name until after the baby is born and it’s official. Come back in a few years after you’ve had a baby and announce your kid’s name and watch how someone will find fault, no matter what you pick. See if you’re cool with the comments then.

It was amazing to me how many people were quick to tell me they hated the name of my son!! — Didn’t matter to me though bc I loved it (still do!) In any case, had to remind myself that I hated the names of most of the naysayers children too To each their own. Personally, this one has a very exotic, romantic sound to it – nice. Would I name my son this? Probably not. Do they care? probably not. Congrats on a beautiful, healthy baby boy.

When I just read the part where it said she had a baby and then the name I thought she had a girl until I read the rest. I like the masculine names like Caiden or Hunter… Just my opinion but yes it is better than peanut!

ITA Lucy, and I am a “childless woman”! Haha. As my fiance and I get closer to having kids we’ve started discussing names here and there if something really stands out to us. After making the mistake of sharing some of these names with friends and hearing them voice their vehement disapproval (along with all those fantastically unflattering stories of the one person they know of with that name or a similar name, or not even a similar name but the name reminds them of that person anyway, etc, etc, hahaha) we’ve now decided that anymore naming talk will stay strictly between the two of us until the baby is born and named. I’m sure there are people who are literally unphased by the opinions of others just because they love something, and ultimately of course I don’t care what my friends think of my babies names, as I often don’t like their choices that much (I’m struggling to think of more than two friends of my own whose children’s names I like AT ALL, now that I think of it…).Nonetheless hearing all the negative comments VERY much dampened my feelings about certain names that at one point I absolutely loved. It’s just a little harder to be excited about a name once my mother has told me about the sleazy guy of the same name that tried to force himself on her at a random college party 25 years ago (to give one example).

I don’t mind the name. I’ve always thought “Val” was a pretty nice guy’s name, which is what I’d think people will call him. I think of Valentina as a woman’s name, but Valentine as a man’s.
