Martie Maguire Welcomes Third Daughter, Harper Rosie

It’s another girl for Dixie Chick Martie Maguire! Harper Rosie Maguire arrived this morning, Friday July 25th, in Austin, Texas. Weighing in at 7 lbs, 10 oz and 20.5 inches long, Harper joins fraternal twin big sisters Eva Ruth and Kathleen ‘Katie’ Emilie, 4.

In a statement on the Dixie Chicks site, Martie, 38, and husband Gareth Maguire, 33, said,

Martie is doing very well and Gareth and the family are over the moon.

The couple announced the pregnancy in January, sharing that a fall IVF cycle had been successful.

Cute name…didn’t ROSIE O’Donnell own Harper’s Bazaar for a while? Or was that another magazine she lent her name to?
If it was Harper’s, that’s an interesting mix of the two…is Martie a big Rosie fan?

OMG…LOOOOOOVE the name! I have always loved ‘Harper’ for a boy or a girl, but our last name ends in -er so we couldn’t use it on our kids…. well, we COULD, it just wouldn’t sound good.

What a beautiful name…I am so jealous! Harper is on my future-baby name list, as is Harlow. Now that celebrities have used those names, they will be uber popular here in no time! Bummer, but I guess I don’t hold exclusive rights to those names! I wanted something old-fashioned to go with my children’s names of Harris and Harvey. Congrats nonetheless! I’m sure she is just as beautiful as her mommy.

Oh wow, i didn’t realize she was even pregnant! I LOVVVVE the Dixie Chicks, have loved them since they first came out back in the 90′s. Seen them live 2 years ago… SO talented.
Congrats to them… 3 little girlies…cute! I might be very mistaken, but I seem to recall their mother’s name or grandmother’s name as Rosie. That could be completely wrong tho I think the name Harper is cute… but i’m Canadian and our PM’s last name is Harper.. & i’m not a fan of him, so unfortunately that’s what i think of when i hear/read it! haha

I’m not fond of the name, since I’d be afraid that my poor daughter would be taunted with “Harper the harpie” for her entire school career. Most of the time I don’t sweat taunts, but the harpie reference seems too easy.

LOVE the name! Harper Mcguire….you can’t get more country sounding than that! Love love it! Someone mentioned that they have 8 now between them. I must have missed one. I thought the lead singer has 2 boys and Martie’s sister has two (both boys, I think) and Martie has three. Who am I missing?

I have been checking CBB everyday to see if Martie had given birth yet! Yay! This is so exciting. I wonder if Harper has red hair like Eva & Katie (and Emily’s twins had strawberry blonde/reddish hair too, so it must run in the family!)

On another note, I really like the name. I wasn’t too fond of Eva or Kathleen until I heard the story of how Martie & Gareth named them- Kathleen was the name of Gareth’s sister who died, and Martie & Gareth call her Katie. Eva was chosen because they wanted a cute Irish sounding name to match Kathleen. I wonder what the story behind Harper’s name is? Anyway, a big congratulations to the whole Dixie Chicks family!
